Hi, I've recently changed my snap broadband plan to one of the new ones offered and added the unlimited youtube and google option. Now both sites are really slow to log into the user account. Is anyone else having this problem. Cheers

Are you using the Snap DNS in your configuration, router, etc?

YouTube has been HORRENDOUS on Orcon this week.

Slow as a wet week.

Last night it was going to take 8 hours to upload a 550MB file. That is about 1/60th the throughput rate my connection is capable of.

I can't watch any videos at 720p. They take far too long to load.

Just anothe reason I'm thinking of ditching Orcon. I have a feeling they may be degrading the performance to people with broadband accounts who don't also have phone service with them. They don't really want these customers. Making their service crap would be a good way to make them move the phone over or get lost.

Not saying that's what they are doing....but my performance on 22mbps DSL to YouTube is garbage.

Can't say I have noticed any delay logging into Google/Youtube but in saying that I usually don't log out from them. Have noticed Youtube is quite slow though, I have never been able to watch anything in HD without buffering.

Snap!'s DNS servers are 202.37.101.1 & 202.37.101.2

I use SNAP ADSL2+ Sync Rate 12.00Mbps, or using DMT Tools to lower the SNR to 6.1 I get 15Mbps.
I've never had any problems with You Tube. 1080p streams fine.

Since Friday the 23rd I've had incredibly poor latency issues will most google services. Gmail, search and maps.
If a page has a google map on it it will just sit there till you hit refresh. Then you may only get half a map. Gmail won't send mail on the first attempt and sometimes you just cant access gmail services at all. This is happening on both my work and home lines, multiple machines/phones/browsers so I know it's not a caching issue or particular to a certain pc.
Very frustrating.

(My bolding above) That's an absolutely disgusting thing to even suggest based on nothing more than an imagined conspiracy theory.

Yeah, that's not true. I have a phone account with them as well. I'm sure there are issues with their google boxes or something.

Life is full of "disgusting things to even suggest" that later prove to be true.

Harden up , Petal.

If it were found to be true, it wouldn't be the first time a company degraded service to a group of customers it wanted to move onto a new service option.

Windows, anyone?

I give up. Never ascribe to malice that which can be explained by stupidity (or transient network conditions)

Somethings wrong with *INSERT LONG CHAIN OF THINGS HERE* It MUST be *INSERT WHACKY CONSPIRACY THEORY HERE*

Out of interest is anyone who's seeing it run slow running IPv6?

That's always been a facile piece of illogic. Some things are malicious.

Anyway....I do speculate across the entire range. Any option is potentially valid until I know it isn't.

I'm already annoyed enough that I'm not ALLOWED to change my service plan without either cancelling altogether or giving them my phone line. So from my point of view it isn't very big stretch at all to at least consider what else they might do that is hostile to keeping me as a customer.

Yes, I discovered that was the issue here, with IPv6 disabled Youtube is a lot quicker though even with IPv6 disabled I still get buffering on HD. 480p is the maximum I can play at without buffering.
