The only real evidence that counts is this: Three people have been issued enforcement (third strike) notices, none have gone before the tribunal. Therefore, nobody is interested in actually enforcing the SkyNet laws, your guess is as good as mine as the content industry reps are not saying.
The language of this debate is interesting.
Internet pirate = criminal. NO it doesn't criminals are charged under the Crimes Act.
Internet piracy = stealing/ theft. NO it is breach of copyright, different law. You can call a duck a horse but that doesn't make it a duck.
Using VPN/ DNS blockers is illegal. NO it isn't, violating a company's Terms and Conditions is not the same as breaking the law.
My fav is the quote from the Stuff article a few days ago saying the fee for processing the notices should be reduced from $25 to 'pennies', the smallest US unit of currency.
Whilst I have a lot of sympathy for people wanting to dload TV shows and movies not yet available in NZ, Music is widely available online and it is cheap to access.
Same here. I never torrented music. Partly because there were so few songs I could be bothered obtaining and partly because it was easy to obtain them via iTunes (then convert to mp4 for playing on Android and every other thing) or some other method.
Similarly, I didn't torrent movies. I like to go to the cinema. Or I'll rent a DVD and we have a family night of it. I don't waste so much time on movies that I have to suck on the supply harder than that.
My issue was always TV content. Years late....or not at all...and already seen by hundreds of millions elsewhere free to air.

I think when it comes to Music Piracy it will mostly be kids getting their parents into dodge.
They have very limited income, and want to hear whats out there.
