The law firm behind the class action levelled at Vodafone wants a damages award in the “tens of millions” of dollars.

Piper Alderman yesterday announced its intention to end two years of investigation by launching a class action lawsuit against Vodafone Australia by the end of May.

Ah, FTA:

"The lawsuit was first floated in December 2010 in reaction to the mass "Vodafail" movement which highlighted issues such as poor service, reception issues and lack of value with Vodafone's mobile network.

At the time, Piper Alderman said it had around 20,000 people interested in a class action lawsuit.

However, it said today that it had no formal registrations yet due to a change in its sign-up process."

So, "Vodafone faces class action" really means "someone is thinking about doing it, but seriously, they don't even have the number of signatures yet but don't let this be in the way of news".

Please come back when the class action actually goes ahead and starts moving through the legal system. Until then the guy in the story is no different from this guy (who was banned for being a troll).

Why would anyone want to attempt to sue a company over issues like those? Personally, I'd find a different provider if Vodafone was really as bad as that.

Vodafone Australia were really quite terrible when I was with them, but this was about 15 years ago.

They had dead spots all over the place but advertised 97% Australia wide coverage.

I was with them for the 12 month contract then moved on, that is what happens when you get bad service, you learn your lesson and move one, after that I was only ever with Telstra as the slight extra cost was outweighed by the best coverage in the country at the time.

All this said, Vodafone in NZ have excellent coverage, pretty good customer services and I am happy to have been a customer of them for 12 years since I moved to NZ.

I know plenty of people (including one who's job it is to perform network testing) who now rate the VF AU network as being significantly better than Telstra's Next G performance wise.. I guess this is what happens when you have no users left!

And as for a class action.. A law firm that doesn't have a single customer signed up for the class acttion? That pretty much sums up the strength of their supposed case.
