Saw this today on reddit
http://www.reddit.com/r/worldnews/comments/1l92my/new_zealand_bans_software_patents_todays_historic/

Everytime Mr Key says the words "partial privatisation" i get a little excited in my pants.
Then he goes and does *gcsb* and i get a little soft on him
Now this

I dont know what to think of this whole national party thing.

This however is good, a nice surprise I guess.

I like the idea of being able to include "swipe to unlock" in my upcoming iphone killer smartphone and as a small startup, not having to pay apple for a license.
Its a good thing for small businesses.

good now can we have our old copyright laws and GCSB legislation back?

while we're at it we should reaffirm those anti nuclear laws just to keep the US at arms length.

No, we will get the FTA and/or TPP. You'll just find software patents are in there, and having signed the treaties, we will be forced to change the law again to abide by them.

That was a skirmish, not the end of the war.
