News report summarised from www.commsday.com.au — international link expected in 2013.

Pacnet, Pacific Fibre to build new Aust-NZ-US cable

Pacnet and Pacific Fibre announced a joint plan to build the Pacific Fibre Cable, a new subsea fibre route between Australia, New Zealand and the US at an estimated cost of US$400 million for at least two fibre pairs, initially with 64 wavelengths per pair and 40Gbps per wavelength.

Pacnet and Pacific Fibre will both have their own fibre pair on the shared cable contract. They will now select vendors to build the cable.
