Same here. I was going to email in and complain about the public email addresses, but I figured with the number of geekzone members whose email addresses would have been in the list, that someone else would have done the legwork of complaining anyway ;)

Just out of the phone with the Black + White CEO and it looks like he will be posting something interesting later.

As Mauricio has said, I have just been on the phone to check he is cool with us soliciting the assistance of “Geekzoners” who clearly have an eye for detail.

By way of reward we are giving away a Palm Centro with no strings attached. www.bw.co.nz/phone/detail/24

Dissapointed again Black and White. First my email is sent to every one and now when I sign up to your blog/forum my password is sent emailed plain text. Even though you say: "Please do not forget your password as it has been encrypted in our database
and we cannot retrieve it for you."
Not good enough, you have to work on privacy there.

Sorry to rant but thought this should be brought to attention..

It should be pointed out here that their blog/forum software is good ol' bog standard PHPBB3. The line "Please do not forget your password as it has been encrypted in our database and we cannot retrieve it for you." and the fact that the password and username were sent in plain text, are both standard features of PHPBB3.

It doesn't matter if it is a default version or not. I signed up thinking that my privacy would be protected and it wasn't. I should either get a warning saying that my password would be sent over an unsecured connection, not send my password, or have a link to show me my password on an encrypted page.

It's the password to a forum, not your credit card details.  I believe this is pretty standard with most forum software.

Even if your password was not emailed to you, their forums don't use SSL, so your password could be intercepted anytime you login to the forums.  I don't think this is really that much of an issue.

To me, that just seems very picky. I really wouldn't attribute that fault to B&W directly. I run a PHPBB3 forum (shihad.com), with the same features, and am yet to have a complaint.

Ultimately, there's a heck of a lot of forums out there in the big wide web with the same problem then.

Heaven forbid if you ever need to get a new password emailed to you, for any forum, blog, or site!

Safe to say that we agree to disagree on this problem?

(edit: my post is in relation to anthonybs's post. Nate beat me to the reply button!)
