Stoked to see it has dialler and SMS. Time to replace my jeans with cargo pants.

Anybody else on a never ending quest to get a bigger, all in one, everyday device?

Good spec, good battery, waterproof, slim, SOLD!

(This can be the discussion thread for this device)

{MOD EDIT : SP : We have 3 different Sony Xperia Z3 family threads which despite their respective original specific topics, all ended up as general discussions for a particular model so I have done some tidying up.

It just so happens that my Dell Venue 8 Pro is very similar dimensions making it a perfect pocket testing prop.

Oh, hadn't caught up with it making calls yet - interesting.

Distinct possibility for me right here, although I'm hoping the Nvidia Shield Tablet LTE can support calls, in which case I'd probably rather have that - considerably more powerful hardware than the Sony here. That said, this is slimmer, lighter, and waterproof, so it has some things definitely in its favour... decisions...

RE: Sitting down. Sitting down is for pussies. Standing workstations are all the rage right now. But seriously, I will be all cargoes all the time if either one of these tablets becomes my next phone.

I'm only basing phone ability on press photos etc but they clearly show the standard Sony dialler and SMS app icons. Fingers crossed!

I've only seen mention of calls via bluetooth but presumably can be used as a (LOLworthy) handset too.

Will go find a hands on video now.

I think that is a pretty sound indication though.

Let us know if you find any! I will take a look now...

EDIT: Yep, confirmed - http://www.engadget.com/2014/09/03/sony-tablet-z3-hands-on/

Bingo.

As a carry-one-device sorta guy I wish it had the Z3 camera. Not sure I want to be that guy taking photos with a tablet though ;-)

This is a good point.

I don't know that I would be that bothered to be honest, I would rarely use the camera, I've come to use my phone camera less and less as I've become more proficient with my GH3 and Lightroom (where I used to find smartphone photos pretty serviceable I have nothing but disdain for most of them now).

That's probably exactly why they did it... being a japanese company and being polite and all that. :D

I reluctantly took a decent point and shoot on my 'murica trip, so glad I did. I'm tempted to try the clip on Sony camera but have reservations.

Doesn't look like the Z3 tablet has an earpiece, so it'll be SUPER LOUD CALLS OVER THE LOUDSPEAKER ALL THE TIME unless you go the bluetooth route.

The Galaxy Tab S 8.0 has an earpiece and fits in my pocket, but I think I'd rather go for something like the Huawei Ascend Mate 7 or the HP VoiceTab 6 that's designed more as a large phone than a tablet.

It's being trialled this year.

I tried one in a shop (the old model, not the "dslr" version).. a little slow, but good quality. They even work without the phone if you want to take blind shots. if you can find somewhere, try it out.
I didn't buy one as I have a Nikon dslr.

And the mrs said I didn't need both. :(

If you looked like this I'd say its OK. Otherwise it may look silly...
