Hi all

I am wondering if the Sony Compact Z3 will work with all the 4G bands being used by VF, Spark, and 2 Degrees?

{MOD EDIT : SP : We have 3 different Sony Xperia Z3 family threads which despite their respective original specific topics, all ended up as general discussions for a particular model so I have done some tidying up.

There are two versions of Z3 Compact — D5803 and D5833 — so it depends which one. Sadly that's as far as my knowledge goes but someone here should be able to tell you which to get.

From GSMArena:

2G Network
GSM 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900

3G Network
HSDPA 850 / 900 / 1700 / 1900 / 2100 - D5803
HSDPA 850 / 900 / 1900 / 2100 - D5833

4G Network
LTE 700/800/850/900/1700/1800/1900/2100/2600 - D5803
LTE 700 / 850 / 900 / 1800 / 2100 / 2600 - D5833
LTE 2300 TD-LTE - D5833

Both do now, D5833 better for when they roll out band 28.

I thought band 28 was lte 700mhz?

Thats the one thing that is confusing me. Which bands represent which frequencies.

I was thinking the D5803 model is the right one for NZ but wanted to make sure about it.

It is, APT 700 though not the other 700 which the D5803 does.

Band 3, Band 28, Band 7. In that priority order. Don't just rely on frequencies, always check what the actual band identifier is.

I'm also looking at a Sony Xperia. The Z1 compact. It does not have Band 28. What are the consequences of this?

I'm also looking at a Sony Xperia. The Z1 compact. It does not have Band 28. What are the consequences of this?

Band 28 isn't very widespread yet. I wouldn't let it change your mind unless you want future 4G in rural areas, you will still get 3G and pretty good urban 4G.

I have the Z1 Compact on the Telecom network and its amazing where you can get 4G now. I was quite surprised to get it in Hanmer Springs (North Canterbury) of all places recently.

I also have the Z1 Compact. Live in Auckland, 2 Degrees, 4G all over the place

Looking forward to Spark selling these soon. Got my wife the z1 compact, regularly see 4~5 hrs screen on time and the battery is only at 50%.
