I want to take a screen print and then draw on it.
I want to open a PDF and draw and type on it.
I want a device with a stylus
I don't really care if it's Apple or other.

I'm keen to hear peoples views on what hardware and software solution I should be looking at.

I'm going to be using it to review web and application designs as well as reviewing building designs.

This means I want to just screen print, then be able to 'scribble' on the result.

Building plans come as PDF's. So I just want to be able to draw and write on them.

Currently I just print stuff out, write on it, then scan it back in.

I'm keen to hear what power I need. Do I care about RAM? I know very little about this space currently. Do I care about CPU, Ram etc, or is what I'm asking now just a simple task on just about anything?

Do I care about screen type with a stylus?

What else should I be caring about?

A Samsung Galaxy Note 8 sounds like it might be ideal for you. It's a couple years old now but still has the hardware to easily do what you want.

How big are the PDFs you want to scribble on? If they are fairly large and budget was not an issue, you may also want to consider the Galaxy Note Pro 12.2 which has 3GB RAM.

Would you also want to consider a Windows tablet like the Surface RT / Surface Pro? The Surface Pro 3 might come in handy if you want to do more than just scribble on a PDF as it runs on Windows 8.1.

I'm just going to throw it on a "500 year, interest free, pay a massive bill but pay it off eventually... perhaps" deal, so I'm not that worried about budget, but I would like it to have enough grunt to keep up for at least 3 years if possible

Get a Surface Pro 3 then. Best of both worlds tablet and PC.

Get a docking station too if you are putting it on the never never interest free for ever plan.

+1 for Surface Pro 3 12" with a N-trig pen

its the best pen enabled tablet out there (yes I have a Lenovo Yoga and various Galaxy Note's 5.7" 8" 12" too)

Another vote for a Surface Pro 3, Best Tablet with Pen out (Onenote with a pen is awesome).

PDF Anotator is a good program to scribe onto PDFs too

Microsoft Surface Pro 3 or Samsung Galaxy Note series, fantastic with styli, main difference will be if you want a tablet-form PC (Surface) or an Android tablet (Galaxy Note).

I use Goodreader (iOS) to annotate (including free form) - works surprisingly well and you can sync online services like dropbox etc. Handles large PDF files efficiently as well

Just a quick note - the key item here is whatever device you choose, it needs to have an ACTIVE digitiser, and devices such as iPad's don't, whereas the Surface 3 (and 2, and Note 8) do, which makes then excellent choices.

Nathan why do you think the MS product is better for the tasks I've outlined?

My main question is how easy it is to make a screen print and then get it in a document? I hate trying to screen print on my S4 and have no idea on my iPhone5

On the S4 it's meant to be easy but the thing seems to just ignore the button presses half the time.

Looking at the MS product I'm up for twice or 3 times the cost of most of those tablets, but I don't currently understand the benefits.
