Dial: I have a dilemma somewhat in line with the above recent posts. I bought myself a new Note 2 in the Christmas sales for a handy discount of $200. I finally got the phone today and discovered that it was not the N705 I was rather naively expecting - from tracking online prices - but the N7100.

The retailer has kindly offered me a refund if I wish. I'm now wondering, should I keep this $820 Galaxy Note 2 N7100, or go online, spend another $200 and buy the N7105?

$820 is a great price, but will I be kicking myself in 6 months when Vodafone and Telecome intro LTE. Things that factor into this include how much will that LTE cost, and just how good are download services currently.

Are there other issues I haven't thought of and is it worth spending the extra $200?

Sorry to repeat essentially the same thing, but... same thing here. I'm about to buy one tomorrow morning. My last phone was a free-on-contract Huawei Happy Meal toy of a smartphone- about 2 years. The one before was a Samsung slider, $400 just two days before the price dropped to $200... I had that around four years. My upgrades have been small, so this is a big jump for me and I want to do it right.

Am I likely to find the DC-HSPA speeds were not worth the extra $200 over say, two to four years? Or am I likely to find that I can't stream or upload video fast and regret not dropping the extra for it? This all of course depends on usage, but anyone who's had a lot of experience with high end recent smart phones will be able to tell us- does the current speed annoy you or do you think DC-HSPA compatibility will be a very noticeable difference you'd happily pay for?

I have almost 2gb of data on a very cheap plan and will be very careful not to go over that, not sure I would make use of the higher speeds tbh. I feel it would be mostly used for entertainment, social networking, games and TV episodes, Youtube, Reddit, maybe even some XXX content! Not much for work.

JayTaicho: I've got the N7105 also. I thought the guy at JB's accidentally gave me the DC/LTE model, and I was like 'Yeeeah, got it for the price of the N7100!" Then I found out that's the only variant Vodafone is selling!

I don't rekon it's worth the extra cash. Then again, get back to me once LTE rolls out...

I'm a little confused by the first paragraph. You got the N7105 from JBs at the price Vodafone is selling the N7100?

The last line - exactly my thoughts.

No, Vodafone ONLY sell the N7105 model. Went to JB's thinking I was getting the N7100. Bought it for $999.
I could of bought the N7100 from a import place for $850, but wanted to get it on an NZ carrier.

Hope that makes sense...

Yep, understand now. It also gives me an idea. The vendor I bought my Note 2 from deals with both 2 degrees and Vodafone. I'm going to ask them why don't they source my phone from Vodafone....

I'm guessing you'd be paying a premium for that LTE speed, so it wouldn't be just another $200 in all likelihood.

That's a good point. I had thought of that, however I'd be surprised if they tried to sting current customers paying for data to pay a higher price for the new speed. I think uptake would be slow and cost them a lot.

They'd be better off giving the higher speeds at no extra, and trying to make up the costs in the inevitable increase in data usage due to being able to watch x times more videos, play higher res content, download more intensive games and apps for the higher processor power devices on the market, and other such incremental increases that are to be expected.

I think you're right -I had a look here: http://www.telecom.co.nz/mobile/mobile/ournetwork/buildinga4gfuture/ and it appears LTE will be available at normal mobile rates.

I've solved my dilemma at any rate - thanks to the Vodafone info gleaned above. I've gone back and asked the vendor to source the phone from Vodafone. It's going to cost me $1099 minus 20% which comes in at $40 more than the N7100. I'm ok with that. Looking at that Telecom link above, LTE ain't far away :)

Hell, I'd pay another $50 for the LTE version. I just wasn't keen to pay $200 for it when I didn't know how long it is until VF roll it out.

Now to find a stand for in the car. Prefer one that clips into the aircon vents than the windscreen, since my windscreen is on a shallow slope and the viewing field is small (sports car).

EDIT: I see Repco have a nice option with a charger and gooseneck cradle, and also heard mention of a SGN2 Owners Forum here? Can't find that...

These car kits are really great I use them here at work. Bit more expensive though and I havn't found a local supplier.

That sounds like what I want! I just need to fix my lighter socket now, haha! Probably just a blown fuse. That can be Saturday's job.

I think the Repco one sounds local enough, cheap enough, and useful enough for my needs, but thanks. It looks good, but at $50 plus postage, the Repco one seems much cheaper and more functional.

EDIT: Oh, that's just for the mount. It's between $65 and $140 for the rest of it.... no thanks!

I ended up buying one on ebay.com for US$99 and having it shipped to the NZpost Youshop address in the states who then send it here.

Nearly every time I copy from an email then attempt to paste into another app my phone invariably crashes and reboots. Anyone else? The clipboard content is usually intact, nevertheless a minor inconvenience. I'm on the 4.1.2 that it shipped with. Not sure of it's origin is an expert infotech 7100
