First thoughts

Jelly Bean out of the box good
Bigger screen than original Note with only minimal overall size increase good

Does the screen size (same resolution), stylus and processor make it worth the extra size over the SIII?

Don't think the processor does, you can overclock an S3 happily to 1.6, for me the screen and RAM are the things worth going for. On my AT&T S3 the 2GB of RAM is really nice, no launcher re-draws ever, just seems bottomless (of course a year ago I said that about 1GB in the S2, but anyways). Battery could be good, 600mA seems disproportionately increased compared to 0.2mm screen increase, not to mention with the 32nm Exynos and battery optimisations from the S3 it'll go further mA for mA than the original Note.

I'll probably get it but thoughts like "I hardly use the stylus and the associated creativity apps" and "it is the same resolution as the SGSIII" are a slight voice of reason . . .

I'm pretty certain this is going to be my first Android device. My jailbroken 3GS is still relevant at three years old, but I hope to replace it in October/November. Will be looking at 32/64G variety depending on price. I wonder if a Samsung Galaxy Note 2 will be relevant after 3 years?

If it is slated for an October release in Europe, you would expect it to be available from parallel importers here by mid-November? Maybe even from the local telecoms by Christmas? Certainly looks an impressive device, even to someone who hasn't been a fan of 'phablets' (this device may change that). They make a big deal of the stylus improvements, any current Note owners care to comment on how the improvements compare with current usage?

I see release in the US is "by Christmas". Is that normal? Or is the delay the outcome of last week's court verdict?

Slightly OT, but I Note (no pun intended) that the same Samsung unveiling included a new Windows 8 phone. Darn it, so many new devices and only a limited pot of gold to spend!

I think it may come here at release, ala the S3. Apparently simultaneous release on 128 carriers, here's hoping some NZ ones are amongst that number.

I rekon we're likely to see it here for the october release. They said it's releasing it 128 countries in october, so hopefully we'll be one of those. Just like the SIII.

Edit: Ah, what NZTechfreak said above...

I just hope they do a midnight launch again, but I doubt it...

Do you need to buy it under cover of darkness? Surely a plain paper wrapper would suffice. Just joking......

Does anyone know how well the original Note sold in NZ? This would be a good indicator as to whether this will be another Vodafone exclusive device for NZ release.

Ha!

The "just joking" was redundant :)

I'm like the least abashed Note owner ever, certainly I don't need to be concerned about buying under cover of darkness. Heck, I've even made calls with my MediaPad plastered to the side of my head in public.

(a mistake, as it turns out, the MediaPad lacks an earpiece so when my call was picked up it was blaring out to the cafe on a very loud external speaker)
