Wade: These prices being bandied about are making the Nexus 6 look like a bargain

I'm struggling to see how pricing can jump around 20% from the last model

You mean like this, but for the same model iPhone?

Nothing surprises me with Apple but yes, iPhone jumped up, M9 & S6 looks to be jumping up

I wonder if the majority are just going to start looking at mid level 2nd gen handsets in the future, convince the average joe that an S6 is worth twice the price of an S4 or 50% more than a S5... good luck with that

At these price-points the desire to have a flagship handset  for me is dwindling

With these prices I can see an opening here for cheaper good quality Chinese phones..

That's where phone like the 1+1 become so attractive. Great specs, great development community, ongoing support. All at a price that's half those from Samsung, Motorola, Sony, LG, HTC and Apple.

kiwitrc: Read yesterday that the S6 Active is very likely going to replace the fingerprint scanner and heart rate monitor with an SD slot.

The finger scanners on the Samsung devices are horrible, the examples I have used the S5 and TabS are just a waste of time. The scanner on my iPhone 6+ and my partners Huawei Ascend Mate 7 work brilliantly.

ummm I think the S6 is coming out with a new finger print scanner so can't compare until then I wouldn't think.

Are you that concerned over what Samsung are doing or just doing a bit of advertising :)

I see the Nexus 6 is $1155 on Noel Leemings so how is that a bargain when Spark have come out with $1099. Am I missing something here or have they gone up in price since Spark announced its pricing, the S5 was $1149 RRP if I recall correctly so actually cheaper for S6

If Samsung are putting a new scanner in the S6 series then that is a good decision and shows they have listened to the complaints. It will be interesting to compare.

I popped into the Spark store on queen street today and they have the 32 gb model for $1050. The 64 gb I think will be $150 more. The edge starts just over $1300 and is insanely gorgeous. Despite being super gorgeous I dont feel I need the edge for now.

It may pay to check the specs of the S6 instead of judging it on previous models, if you are that interested of course now that you have an Iphone and your wife works for Huawei :)

They don't have them for sale but a couple of select stores have an S6 and an Edge on display so people can come in and have a play. They were both pretty awesome. The only thing that bothered me was app drawer which isn't ordered (and cant be ordered) alphabetically. You can create app folders etc in the app drawer but it is really messy. I would much rather the app drawer serve as a directory.

Apart from that, it is a great phone.

I have seen some videos of the S6 Edge and it is a much nicer looking device to the S6, I like the curved screen and the camera does not look like an after thought. A pity they are still sticking with touchwiz even if it has been toned down about. It just adds a slow extra level the devices don't need.

nate: johnr, any ideas when Vodafone will launch in NZ?

I don't think this one was answered specifically. :)

The Samsung GALAXY S6 will be available from Vodafone NZ from 11 April. We'll have more information about stores with stock etc closer to the time, I expect it'll be the normal main launch stores but I'm sure Nik will be able to add details closer to the time.

If you'd like you can sign up for updates on the Samsung GALAXY S6 edge on Vodafone NZ  at our Coming Soon page.

You're right,  I popped down to spark on lambton quay. They had both on display.  The edge is awesome looking,  but not interested after spending time with it. Video on the edge screen just doesn't look right.  Ok for short video,  but I wouldn't want to watch a film on it.  The standard S6 looks a better bet.  A lovely looking phone. Only negative,  touchwiz is looking very dated against google material design.
