iPhone 7+ latest IOS.

For example, I live in Titahi Bay, check the temp when I wake up, all good. Drive to Porirua train stn, doesn't refresh (double tap home button, swipe up and reopen to get Porirua). Get to Work at Welly Central, still no refresh. Hours into the day it doesn't refresh so I am now in the habit of swiping up to close it and then re-open.

Hmm. Thanks to a helpful person (who i assume originates from here) emailing with steps to replicate, I have been able to replicate the no-refresh behavior, but only by not using the phone at all between refresh attempts. Will it eventually update the location if you keep it open for a minute or two? I assume pulling down to refresh has no effect?

Repeated the test this morning and the same thing happened, no refresh/update of location when I got to Porirua st or to work (Welly central).

I did notice something when going home on the train yesterday. I was at Tawa and checked the app, no update even after pulling down for refresh, still said Wellington Central (after I had swiped up and closed at work earlier). I then pressed home to go back to the homescreeen, opened Google maps, which updated and showed the current location. opened metservice app and it updated to the current location (Tawa).

Tried that experiment at work just now. I arrived at Welly Central, app didn't update location, even after pulling down and refreshing. Opened Google maps which updated and showed the correct location, went back into metservice app, very brief pause (1/2 second) and bingo it showed the correct location.

one can only summise that is the app relying on the pre-determined mobile GPS location from the handset, rather than permission to poll the GPS/report itself then (where they want to drop server load from it doing it from everyones device all the time)

No automatic refresh = first world problem of highest order. IMHO.

I love the new widget - design and functionality. When I want a weather update, I touch refresh on the widget, I receive a near instant updated forecast. Perfect.

Android has an option to have the app 'piggy back' on the location refresh of other apps, primarily to reduce the impact on battery life when you want things to update in the background (eg widget). The MS app uses that option, but it should still force an update when you are actively using the app and you're outside the minimum refresh period. I am chasing up with the dev folks.

When you open the app, the app gathers data, it should include the location data as well. It isn't like it needs to refresh the location continually

Dev checking with Savvy users :D gotta be better than a 1* report with limited technical reasoning I bet *applaud*

With the latest (IOS) version the refresh issue is fixed. Works as it should.

Can anyone tell if the app (iOS or Android) uses a secure connection to communicate with Met Service? As far as I can tell their actual website is HTTP only.

i have been using for while now.
while there are some simple nice improvements eg morning midday afternoon evening forecasts.

overall app i give a thimbs down.

i still prefer right swipe for different days. i dont care about other cities

and i liked a quick link to rain radar. having to scoll down is a pain.

the new app sucks.

not only is it reticient to refresh but the new layout is dopey with the current temp cowering under the day's high/low.

bring back the old app !

Yr.No is the only weather App I use these days. Loved it when living in Dublin, wasn't sure it would work or how accurate it would be down here. I just love how simple the user interface is and how much information you can get without having to deal with a cluttered screens, or multiple screens.

Removed the app. Back to AccuWeather Platinum (paid) because the Metservice widget is not showing current temperature requiring me to open the app to see it. Nope, not good experience.

Interesting, I have the App installed on an IOS device and an Android device and the widgets on both show the current temp. On the Android it shows on the left side in a row showing current, forecast high, forecast low. in the IOS widget it shows the current above the forecast.

A world that has gone totally insane.
