My phone has also now cleared customs in Auckland. It looks like you can now use the tracking on the PBT couriers website, which for me provides extra information not present on Omniparcel. Mine says "Departed Auckland for Lwr Nth Is".

Mine was scheduled for delivery tomorrow. Grew impatient, so picked it up from the depot in Seaview, Lower Hutt.

Mine arrived today. Migration from the Nexus 6P was painless - just plug the two phones together and the Pixel 3 copies everything over.

The AU/NZ charger Kogan threw in isn't very useful for this phone - wrong spec (Qualcomm QuickCharge 3.0 instead of USB-C Power Delivery) and wrong interface for the included cables (USB-A instead of USB-C). Luckily the proper google charger supports 230V so works fine here with an American plug adapter.

Good news.

What did it end up costing in comparison to if you were an American citizen buying there?

The DSE price is surprisingly close to the US price - only around $100 more expensive. Given they're probably slightly easier to take up a warranty claim with and are handling tax/customs for you its perhaps worth the extra cost

Google store - currently US$699 - NZ$1,030.48  excluding GST or NZ$$1,185 including GST
DSE/Kogan - currently NZ$1,120.87 excluding GST or $1289 including GST.

My one didn't come with an AU/NZ charger at all, despite the Dick Smith listing saying that it would. I wonder if I should ask them to send one. I'm okay using the included parallel prong charger with an adaptor I had lying around at the moment. I also have a 5W wireless charging pad at home which charges it slowly. I'll probably make that my work charger, so I can charge my phone while also using the USB-C earbuds.

The only options I can find for 18W USB-PD fast chargers available at retail in New Zealand are the $33.90 Jaycar one and the $55 Apple one. Other than that the fast-charging options would be to use a bulky 30W+ USB-PD laptop charger, or find a way to import the official Pixel charger from Australia.

If anyone's interested, the packaging suggests that the model being sold by Dick Smith was intended for the Canadian market.

Currently having Xmas with my son in Coffs Harbour and see this morning that JB have $200 off the 3XL. So 128GB is down to $1299 and there 64GB at $1149. Very tempted to buy one at that price to replace the Nexus 6P!! By the time you take exchange rate and getting 10% gst back on departure into account it should work out pretty cost effective - even if NZ gst were to be added .

Hi guys, now that you have had your Pixel 3's for some time, would you say that it was worth the effort in getting one to NZ?

Are there any other Google functions that just don't work in NZ, for example I know the new call screening function is only available in the US at the moment; but are there any other functions/apps that just doesn't work based on location?

Thanks

Hey GMT,

Yup worth it, but that's me of course! Risk is if anything goes wrong and need to return, but that's the risk you take, mainly the time factor and hassle. I had a Pixel XL previously and it's an incremental upgrade really. Alot of the differences between the UI will be back ported at some point to the older Pixel models, if not already, so it's mainly a hardware upgrade.

Love the camera, notch doesn't annoy me, it's more real estate right? :0) bigger screen is good.

The main reason for buying the Pixel is the OS, it's clean, as intended and updates are regular and seamless. If you go all in and sacrafice your privacy the integration is helpful.

There are cheaper Android phones around and the Pixel XL 3 isn't King of them all, but it's a great phone and very happy.

Cheers
Ash

I upgraded from a Pixel 2XL to the 3XL

Usually this would be hard to justify but in my case my son has replaced his iPhone 6S with my 2XL and is very pleased with it.

The features I love on the 3XL are IP68 and wireless charging.

Hey folks,

For those who have bought their Pixel 3/3XLs from Dick Smith - are the phones unlocked?

I am going to be travelling for a year or so and am hoping to be popping in and out simcards as I go.

Thanks!

My one is an international model (North American plug) and is working happily with a 2degrees SIM right now so I'd say so.
