For those picking up from the store.  What time are you planning on starting queueing at PB tech?  I finish work at 9pm tonight so I hope thats not too late to get a good spot in the queue.  Will it be cold tonight do you think?

Thought I'd try it on and asked if they would allow me to pick up instead of delivery- no deal lol. Nothing ventured nothing gained I s'pose

Dial111: In a turn of events it turns out my order was never submitted by 2degrees over a week ago even though they’ve taken my upfront payment and set up for the next billing cycle. it looks as if I wish to have it submitted today I will not be getting it on launch but somewhere between 5-10 days.

Looks like I’ll go elsewhere.

Ha!  2 degrees, most declining NZ tellco.  They seem to have missed that the point of a pre order is getting what you ordered on release day.

Nothing beats my Galaxy experience.  Ummed and arred about it for weeks.  Decided to pre order from the Samsung kiosk in the mall.  The sales person assured me that there was a Galaxy watch on the way with my name on it and it would be in waiting for me at 10am on release day.  We all know that sales dudes are as truthful as Trump's tweets.

Anyhow I hadn't even driven all the way home when said sales dude called and said there had been an unexpected delay so my watch won't be here.  I go in a couple of days later and they look surprised to see me.  Just a couple more days they say.  On about the third iteration of this I lost my sh1t and got a refund.

I brought the watch a couple of weeks later from Noles when it was on the 20% rotating special so in the end it was a win.

It arrived.  First observation is it's stunning build quality.  It's noticeably bigger than my 10+.  The camera bump is large, and heavy.  In fact it makes it quite top heavy.  Since it's a long phone it might be hard for some hand sizes to keep it balanced nicely when using it.  Looking forward to having a good play tonight.

Definitely no clear plastic case in the box like there used to be with the 9 and 10, and like they have in the promotional material in NZ.  Also no tool for the pen to remove the nib, or spare nibs.  There were 2 spares in my 10+ box IIRC.

Words escape me.  PB Tech (Christchurch) just texted me to say that Level 3 lockdown means that the phones won't be here until the middle of next week.  Level 3, yeah right.

No extra nubs, removal tool or clear case? Are there at least AKG earphones in the box or is it missing like in the USA boxes?

They're really pulling an Apple here.

Yes there are wired earbuds, super fast usb-c wall charger, and usb-c to usb-c cable in the box. The display also has a pre-installed screen protector that I will leave on for a while until some accessories arrive

An official response from Samsung on the ongoing Exynos vs Snapdragon issue making people in europe and elsewhere angry.

Its pretty much around 25% less powerful in all regards. The question is how many people care. I guess Id only care due to the cost vs other devices with better performance. Also a couple hours battery life is not to be sneazed at.

Anyway, not to bring the debate up again, its clear other people around the world are taking the fight to Samsung. I just thought would be interesting for people to hear the reason is not that they cant put SD chips in our phones, but its to create competition.

The only thing I find interesting is, why do they not use the lower powered Exynos chips in the Tab S6 and S7 etc, they are all snapdragon powered.

Phone Arena exynos vs sd performance, why?

GSM Arena has a review up of the Exynos Note 20 Ultra 5g

Looks like the display has had a few improvements beyond the VRR, which seems to be a bit un-optimized at the mo. Battery life is on-par with the S20+/U, so obviously the 500mah U v U difference means squat. I must admit, while I like the S20's rounded edge frame a bit more, the N20's camera modules look a lot better than most recent designs in memory, despite being so bulbous.

I think their point about thermal throttling bares repeating though; it's perfectly fine in day-to-day usage, but if you are going to be doing 20+ minute gaming sessions, maybe look elsewhere. The Exynos SoC just can't handle the jandal.

So after all last night with the Note 20 Ultra, I'm just in love.  It oozes quality.  The matt glass on the back feels incredible.  The few photos I took, mostly in low light, came out beautifully.  Really looking forward to the Kishi arriving now so I can do some gaming on this.

Yup, they really nailed it on the exterior design. The camera module looks almost the same size as my old Xperia X10 Mini Pro haha.

Funny how the Mystic bronze almost looks pink in this photo.

The latest Samsung mail just announced a $200 trade in boost. Sales must have been slow.

Here is the trade in info.  Thats not bad although not as good as the $300 boost I got on the trade in for my note 9.  It puts my note 9 at about the trade me price without the trade me hassle.

Happy new phone day to those lucky people that are actually getting a phone today (sob sob).
