Thanks for the response. I also did expedited shipping. Even better split the shipping for watch and phone to pay a little less fees.
Lets hope mine gets shipped soon. Case and protectors are arriving today
They shipped out my watch and phone separately despite me selecting expedited for both. Totally forgot about the UK plug as well, I guess i'll need an adapter :)
timmmay: Nothing comes with chargers anymore, you need to supply one. So no adapter needed.
Shows you how long it's been since I've purchased a phone! Had forgotten this was a thing now. Thanks timmmay
Has anyone had any experience with getting a mate to courier phones over? Really not keen to get stung with customs duties. Since a phone is going to be worth more than $110, even if it's listed a "gift" its applicable for duties.

Ask me in a week. I already paid Australian GST when I purchased the phone, I expect to pay NZ GST, but hopefully not duties as well. I hope it's worth it... I only buy a new phone every 3-4 years so I don't mind too much. I'll be annoyed if it's faulty though!
Well I pulled the trigger also and bought the P8 from Google. They included the Pixel Buds, gave me $260 trade-in on my Pixel 4XL and US$69 Google store credit to be used on devices and accessories. I also plan to ship back by Youshop and since I have a 50% discount coupon from Youshop to compensate me for a shipment that took 5 weeks to get here (long story), the shipping should not be too bad.
Exporting a phone from Australia is a bit of a pain. We looked at "Pack and Send" first as they collect and it's reasonably priced over there. That was looking great until the last page after you complete everything says "you can't send anything with a lithium battery". Most couriers won't take lithium batteries inside phones, including Australia Post courier. You have to use Australian Post Air Mail.
A friend of mine took my phone to the post office today, they sent him home to complete some forms online:
So two trips to the post office, completing a couple of apparently quite significant forms, it's a bit of effort. If you're having a friend / family member ship it you may want to buy them a gift as thank you for the hassle. If you're buying in Australia consider using a reshipper, who probably have this stuff somewhat automated. Because of the forms value is declared, GST will be invoiced to me, which will probably hold things up for an extra week. Postage will be about $80 insured. So the Pixel will probably cost $1200 + $80 postage + $195 GST = $1475, but I should get a $250 gift voucher, making it $1225.
All in all, it's probably easier to buy from Amazon US / UK. Amazon AU have the standard model for $1750 - $550 more than JB HiFi with no bonus deals. It will probably come down eventually.
My case from Pro Gadgets AU has been sitting at Melbourne airport waiting for a plane for 2 days... not really a problem since the phone will probably take more than a week to arrive.
It'll all get here eventually. I hope the d*mn thing works properly, I don't want to have to go through this again to get it repaired. I'd use a reshipper, but it'd cost a bit to do.
Isn't a bit crap that you have to pay GST on the Pixel Watch from Amazon. I suppose I get why because the promotion is applied at the last step after all the taxes, but it does still mean your "free" watch actually costs $100 😭
nate: I'm currently in the USA and thinking of picking one of these up from Bestbuy. I assume it'll work fine in NZ on our carriers provided it's unlocked?

Youi will probably get 5G, VoLTE but possibly not VoWiFi if you use One (erstwhile Vodafone). I am slightly annoyed as I use Kogan which is basially One and I just purchased another year of their service. But then the amount of time I thought I might need VoWiFi is pretty limited. Good for those at home with good Internet but poor phone service who still want to make regular phone calls.

Anyone got suggestions on Pixel 8 Pro cases? Was looking at the Spigen ones on Amazon AU, however given the number of fake Spigen cases being sold in other places and that they are also 3rd party sellers, I figured I might give those ones a miss.
Update: Upon further investigation, I think the PROgadgets ones might be legit though(mixed feedback from customers online about legitimacy), they say they represent Spigen in Aussie
I've purchased from there, Spigen liquid air. It should arrive in a few days, give or take. I only got it from there as Amazon were out of stock, buying from the right seller on Amazon should be fine.
I purchased a Spigen Ultra Hybrid case from PROgadgets - didn't arrive with any of the usual paperwork and looks a bit sus overall. Hard to tell if it's actually legit... I am probably going to send it back - anybody know what the returns process is like with Amazon?
