Brunzy: Now that these have been out for a few weeks, can anyone comment on battery life compared
to other phones you have owned?

I don't find it any better or worse than the iPhone 4

Lasts well if you're not using the screen constantly like I do...

Battery life is average in my opinion, about 2 days with moderate use. Certainly not earth shattering considering the size of the battery.

The screen is a power hog.

My software number is 1.29.980.2.
Bought from NL 3 weeks ago. Is this the latest firmware available in NZ?
What do you guys have?

Also, as I understand, the last digit is the build number and the middle, 980, is the variant (i.e. telecom, vodafone, etc). Then what does the first three digits, 1.29 represent?

Android version.firmware version.locale.revision

When we get the 4.2 update it will likely be 2.xx.980.x for us here.

The version we have is the latest NZ one available.

2 days of moderate use is pretty good. I think we have to be realistic - these are powerful devices and to get over a day's worth of use is already a feat in itself.

I'm not sure I agree. Other than screen size the N9 more than matches the HTC One for smoothness of operation and capability etc, and it easily does two days on a battery half the size.

To those asking about battery tests, GSMarena is a reasonable real world use guide:

Web browsing and video playback are good guides of approximate screen on times.

The N9 has an interesting result though, sure you aren't just using the phone more?

That isn't remotely an apples with apples comparison. Vastly underpowered hardware in comparison pushing around WVGA on a 3.9 inch screen, the battery is nearly 2/3rds the capacity of the Ones rather than half, and lets face it you won't be consuming as much background data and so forth on that phone. You might as well say that you disagree two days battery life on the N9 is realistic when your feature phone could do 5 days on a battery half the size.

EDIT: Regarding GSMArena battery tests - they really aren't that good at all.

I found they matched my experience with my few devices pretty well. Of course like any benchmark they can be out of touch with real world usage. But overall i'd say they aren't too bad.

That's what I referring to, based on GSMArena's comparisons ultrapixels do not look anywhere near as good as a decent 13mp, which is why I wondered if the suggestion they were was taken from some piece other than the linked one.
Are those photos before or after they fixed the lens and firmware upgrade of the camera.

There is no camera firmware upgrade, never was. The site that said that have since corrected their piece, they had a "bad unit" and got it replaced with a normal unit.

The main reason the One looks so dramatically bad in those daytime shots is that the side-by-side shots are 100% crops which fully expose the difference between 4mp and 13mp in good lighting conditions where the ultrapixels don't bring any particular advantage to the fray as they do in low light.

I like my HTC Sensation.....but the camera just can't handle bright light. This is one of the reasons I have not bought another HTC phone. LG and Samsung phones have much better cameras. You can take a photo of a sunrise or sunset without half the image being a white blob.

I think you missed my point. It's not the hardware that matters. It's about how the hardware is used. The N9 gives comparable performance to the HTC One with similar battery life on a much smaller battery.

So far as background data goes both phones have been used in the same manner so any data and background usage is the same.

So far as overall use goes, since I've had the HTC One my work pattern has changed meaning less usage with the screen active. This would improve the relative battery performance of the HTC.

Thanks for the replies , have ordered one from NL ,who price matched TWS ( ie NL + 5% off)
My iphone 4 that I used to get almost two days out of the battery , on two occasions took a big drop after IOS updates , & the only cure seemed to be the next update, hence my question re battery.

Looks like some more info about 4.2.2 and sense 5 update, including long press for menu option, as well as other tweaks.
