Also got an OTA update here - from B381 to B382. No change in the EMUI version (still 5.0.1), and the security patch level is now 6 Nov 2017 (from memory it was June or July after the B381 update). No real info in the changelog that came with the update - no mention of whether or not this has the KRACK or Bluetooth hacking fixes.

Nope nothing OTA, thanks for pointing it out though. I tried the firmware finder app a while back, which showed it, but I couldn't upgrade to it. I've pretty much given up, and I'll try for a Nokia / Google phone as my next phone.

This one works fine. Would just be nice to have the newer features and security updates.

Just had a bit more of a read. The C900 part of my firmware ( EVA-L09C900B137 ) indicates it's a cross flashed firmware and will never get over the air updates. The solution is to install TWRP, downgrade to the correct ROM, then it will get OTA updates. I might try that one day, but there's risk with that of bricking the phone.

Apparently more upgrades are coming soon. Not for me until I get around to doing a bunch of risky work because the ROM I have never gets upgrades - I forget the details but I need to debrand or rebrand or something.

Installed fine. Change log says there is a new split screen key for WhatsApp, optimised camera's burst shooting stability and fixed a signal error issue during calls. Now has android security patch level 1 January 2018 (hope they didn't have too many New Years Eve drinks before releasing that one!)

I'm torn. The upcoming P20 is very iphone X in appearance and is rumoured to have three rear cameras and an under screen fingerprint reader. I said I would never buy a phone from a manufacturer that doesn't update quickly, but I might make an exception for this upcoming phone.

I wouldn't. My P9 never gets any updates, patch level March 2016. It somehow got onto a branch / rom that never updates.

as we have already established your phone is an oddball model and is not indicative of the majority of other users in NZ. so while your experience may not be the best Huawei have really upped their game when it comes to updates.

Yeah, I should really get around to flashing it to a standard ROM, as the hardware is fine. It's just the whole risk vs reward thing, it might brick it and I use it for work. I can always get another phone, but it's a hassle.

I might update it one day. I'd put it on Lineage but in the past I haven't found third party ROMs that reliable, and I like the camera app that comes with it.

Also installed the new version (VNS-L22C706B363) via Spark on 2 Mar. Also Android security patch level 1 Jan 2018.

Wow, that's 2 updates in less than 6 months! An improvement on the previous 0 updates in almost 2 years! Here's hoping for more to come.

FWIW I have a 2degrees P10 lite that is still on the July 2017 security patches. It has had an update or two, and 2degrees promised a Krack fix around Xmas but nothing has actually arrived. Pretty poor and I'm very unlikely to touch a Huawei or carrier controlled updates again.

My 2degrees P9 Lite is still on the 6 November 2017 security patch level and says there are no updates available.
