I've just discovered one new feature that the update provides that has really pleased me: ability to simulate the menu key by long pressing the Recent Apps button.

I've got a few older apps (i.e. the Countdown shopping list app) that bring up a special menu when you press the menu button on the phone (an actual "menu" button, not a menu icon on the screen). Unless your phone has a menu button you're stuffed as there's no way to bring up the app's menu.  But now with this latest update for the Smart Prime it pops up a little message whenever you access an app that uses the old menu button method that tells you that you can long press the Recent Apps button to simulate the menu button.  Now these all apps work again for me! Yay!

Hi everyone

The Vodafone Smart prime is now on the approved for Semble list http://www.semble.co.nz/get-semble/vodafone  so now you can pay for things at contactless terminals using this phone. (They've called it the "Vodafone Prime 6 [VF-895N]" which is the same thing.)

You can get a Semble capable blank sim with a NFC secure storage element from your local Vodafone/Spark/2degrees store. They're free for Vodafone customers, not sure about the others. You can then load a copy of your ASB/BNZ Visa or Mastercard for payments, or Snapper travel card for buses and parking in Wellngton region.

Let us know how it goes for you.

Dylan

If anyone has managed to brick their Smart Prime 6, someone has made a stock rom for it!

I have not tried this but if you have a brick it might be worth a try!

Is there any hope of getting an upgrade to the newer Android 6 OS on these Vodafone devices?

Any word on plans to implement this?

One of the big benefits of Android 6 that I can see is better SD card integration.  As it stands on ver 5 you need to either manually move content over, or set up a task based app to undertake this.  As others have pointed out, it's hard to find a decent phone app that will store directly to the SD card for example.  This isn't specific to this phone at all, but as we've now got one of these, it's worth asking.

Likewise the oct core ultra version also.  Any plans to upgrade either of these phones.

The Oct ultra version is dropping in price, but seems to have the bubbling screen issue, so would want to keep the receipt on that one.

Any new software updates for this phone? I think the last one was in October last year. I see the Smart Ultra has been getting updates.
