heavenlywild: When will Telecom or 2Degrees have the Z2s?

Also, for those with a Vodafone handset, does it show a Vodafone start screen on boot up?

It's been about 5 years since I saw a device that wasn't specifically branded by Vodafone, have this functionality. Telecom does it though, it's annoying as hell.

How exiting, I picked up my Z2 this morning from Noel Leeming here in Palmy. I have a feeling a night without much rest is just around the corner.

The Z2's from Noel Leeming are Vodafone branded phone, at least that's what is on the box. I popped my 2Degrees sime in, and I can't really see any Vodafone stuff. The only thing I can see is a the My Vodafone app it the app drawer, that's about it. I'm really pleased, it's quite cleen, just some sony stuff, which is to be expected I guess.

The Z2 is a Vodafone exclusive in NZ, Telecom & 2degrees will not be ranging it. :)

There are no splash screens or visible branding outside of the My Vodafone app (Which I believe can be disabled).

The HTC One M7 I bought last year didn't have any branding whatsoever at least for any carrier. Just hoping this is the case for the Z2.

Thanks mate for the information.

How much to unlock the Z2?

Update - it is my understanding that Vodafone phones now back as being carrier locked? Or should I get out of my cave? I can't keep up!

Only a very small number of low cost heavily subsidizes models are carrier locked. Doesn't apply to this phone nor any other over $300 as far as I am aware.

Anyone know if the Sony Walkman app will work with a non Sony Device? Anyone have the APK?

As networkn says, the Z2 is not locked. Currently only a handful of entry-level devices are, and when this is the case it should be very obvious - e.g. the Smart 4 Mini at $99 has a note saying 'At this price, this phone is set up to only work with a Vodafone NZ SIM.' Locked devices generally also come in an unlocked flavour for + ~$30.

Historically, it will - check XDA for some apks. There doesn't appear to be much difference between the one on the Z2 & the last few builds, so the ones on XDA should give you the same experience (Or should that be xperience?).

I have to say, for the price, the dock is pretty unimpressive. It's nice and convenient and all, but $70??

Agreed, surely there will be cheap knock-offs?

Yeah the docks are stupidly expensive for what is essentially a very small piece of plastic and simple wiring. My Xperia Z dock was $50 (still expensive) so I don't see really why it costs $25 more to make it magnetic...

Still I saved a bit getting my dock from clove.

The official Sony case is quite nice however.

I think there are quite a few cheap knockoffs on Ebay for the dock but I don't know how trustworthy those sort of items will be

Anybody installed the new Firmware yet?
There is an update 17.1.1.A.0.402 available. I'm just going ahead and install it on mine, feel a bit adventurous wink
