I've gotten my phone off the old "end of line" firmware onto the EU firmware - EVA-L90C432B391, Android 7. It's just doing app installation and an over the air firmware update now.

I used the free beta version of the DC Unlocker tool. It's 20 Euro once it's out of beta, so if you want to use it, now is good. It wasn't quite smooth sailing, it boot looped for a while and I had to mess with it a bit to get it going. All in all not too difficult though. The trick is if it says there's an error hit the button to continue, make sure it's still plugged into computer, and run the tool again to update the firmware.

Update - the firmware actually came up to EVA-L09C432B395. Android 7, EMUI 5.0.1. Seems a bit faster than Android 6.

There's a chance that EMUI 8.0 with Android Oreo might come to the P9. I wouldn't hold your breath, but it might be a nice update.

I've recently updated to Android 7, the P9 is the phone it should've been from the start. It's fast, shows all notifications (I think), settings are sensible, and odd bugs I had with the old Android 6 have disappeared. It's a much nicer phone.

I got an update to EMUI 5.0.3 today on EVA-L09C432B504. It's still Android 7, but it's patched to July 2018.

Google Play gave me a new version of Huawei Update. I went in there and it said "no updates". I chose "download latest full package" (or something like that) from the menu. It installed fairly quickly.

My P9 Lite has just updated to VNS-L22C706B366. Change log just says it includes August 2018 Google security patches. Still EMUI 5.0.1, Andriod 7.0

It might be happening! My wife's Chinese market P9 now has Android 8/EMUI 8 - it's an EVA-AL10 (Dual Sim P9) and the version number now says 8.0.0.528(C00).
