Gilco2: well due to camera problems I also bought galaxy s4 but that suffers battery life. Under half of the HTC One. So dilemma, keep HTC ONE or Galaxy S4 and hope problems will be fixed in Android 4.3. HTC One feels better overall. Some photos are good while majority are blurry. If hardware surely all would be blurry. Of course I also worry about camera lens now after someone pointed that out on XDA site.

The S4 doesn't suffer battery problems it suffers from apps being left on and syncing. Try turning off google now, location services,

Everything is relative and if the HTC One can work with these services on it is fair to compare the battery life of the Galaxy with them on also. If the Galaxy is unable to match then it is a battery problem, whether hardware or software causation IMO.

There isn't an issue with the S4 battery life and it certainly isn't half the HTC one otherwise it would be all over the internet so my point was that its an operator thing not hardware. This isn't me going tribal just don't like to see posts they are incorrect.

Heh it's great that the president of HTC is doing that, but with all respect to him, he's not the one who's got to put in the hard work to get 4.3 to the one...!

I was just stating my experience with both devices. I had everything turned off in main settings except wifi. Same apps on both. I have just done factory reset on S4 and have now manually installed the apps in case the backup may have had settings that affected the S4 but not the HTC One. So will know in another couple of days. So far the HTC One seems the better of the 2 apart from the camera being unreliable

HTPC Intel Pentium G3258 cpu, Gigabyte H97n-wifi motherboard, , 8GB DDR3 ram, onboard graphics. Hauppuage HVR 5500 tuner, Silverstone LC16M case, Windows 10 pro 64 bit using Nextpvr and Kodi

So what's your point? We received 4.2 for the One after 4.3 was released for Google devices. It's a fact of life that there is a delay between vanilla android releases and oem firmware updates. People have the opportunity to root and install GPE firmware if they want things sooner. At the moment I prefer that the 401 owners are used to beta test major updates.

Don't mind me, its just a bugbear of mine with the Android ecosystem and its inherent flaws, the One is a premium handset and HTC should treat its users to a premium experience and part of that is keeping it up to date

So I opted for replacement with my insurance company and on Tuesday received a new One. Didnt get around to opening it and toying with it until yesterday and I have to say I'm pretty disappointed.

Originally got my one on the 8th of May, the day after it came out. It had the gap issue but only on the top. If I squeezed the two parts together the gap closed. I took it on the chin as an early production run fault but no having a new one this appears to not be the case.

The top of the phone is fine, very slight gap on the top left next to the power button. On the bottom however, there is a noticeably large gap on the bottom going from the left of the charge port all the way to the end of the bottom side. It looks as if during the C&C process (or whatever they use) they have milled off an extra layer of material, leaving the gap.

Further to this, there is a very apparent ridge on the phone where the top and bottom of the screen meets the aluminium. It is almost like the screen was not put on straight when assembled. On the bottom the screen is lower than the aluminium and on the top the screen is higher.

Thinking about taking it back to JB HiFi at some point. Do you guys reckon I have a case?

I will when I get home. The gap issue is clear, but the screen thing will be pretty hard to get a photo of.

I've been using it for a few days now. So far so good.

It is much much faster than 4.2 was, this is similar to what I found going from 4.2.2 > 4.3 on the Galaxy Nexus.

Show off ;) Is that battery percentage within the battery icon a feature of the upgrade or something you've done by other means?

Seem to be a few nice features being added, being able to choose your own music for video highlights being one that stands out for me

I'm using the Xposed framework and the One Toolbox from the ARHD ROM for the battery icon.

Requires root.
