Phones that are sold by an operator doesn't always mean it's going to be chokka full of branding - it often now just means that it has the correct settings to be fully compatible with that network.

There are many settings on phones these days that vary between networks, and you can easily experience issues. I can list a number of such issues using a 2d S3 on VF which were all solved by moving to the Vodafone firmware.

There is an update 17.1.1.A.0.402 available. I'm just going ahead and install it on mine, feel a bit adventurous

That was a quick and painless exercise. All in all about 20 Min and it is up and running again. I just did it through the PC companion and it is really just straight forward.

Nothing obvious changed but I go and see whether I can find some info.

Use a Mac and the bridge for MAC says up to date

Yep, I got mine yesterday from Noel Leeming and it is is a Vodafone NZ branded phone.

All I did was plug the phone into the PC via USB because I wanted to transfer some Music. and then it told me there was new SW. So I just went ahead and did it.
As mentioned I'm using Sonys PC Companion software on a Windows PC.

The world wide roll out only just started. I guess you will be able to do a OTA update at some stage.
It all seems to be a bit hush, hush, not very well organised. A bit like the launch this year.
I'ts also a bit strange that no change log is available for this update, at least not in the public domain. Nobody really seems to know what exactly is in this update.

Sony roll updates out worldwide all at once if you're using PC Companion... It'll take time using OTA.
XDA is the place to look for a changelog... People pull it apart.

Well this is interesting. I connected my phone to a PC companion and it said there is an update and after half an hour it is still showing the old version. Now even PC companion says its up to date. Something strange happening there. The version it shows is 17.1.A.2.55. Can someone help me with this one as this doesn't make any sense to me? This is a Vodafone NZ version.

Note phone must be at 50% battery or higher before it will start the upgrade, and the download is quite lengthy.

Updated to 17.1.1.A.0.402

No obvious differences.

No obvious differences.

Because I got the notification in my phone, I ended up updating OTA. I timed it and the download took 3 minutes, the phone was on and usable within 8 minutes.

17.1.1.A.0.402 and nothing visibly new. I bet it's just minor bug fixes or optimisation.
