emenent7426: Yes 4G works perfectly but no VoLTE

I think the final nail in the coffin for 5G compatibility would be to go into a spark/Vodafone store and ask them to try and enable 5G, not sure how that would work with lockdown, lvl3 stage2. Doubt it would work but aleast you get a definite answer (until someone finds a root/mod work around)

So DHL Express get my phone into the country from Australia in a day.  It then goes through Customs in under 24 hours!  Unfortunately it's been handed over to NZ Post to complete the delivery...and has sat there for 2 days so far, without any update on tracking....bugger!

How are you guys shipping from Oz? Directed to a friend's address?
Where did you order from?

Ordered from JB when they had stock. Sent it to my brother's place in the GC and got him to pack it up send it here through DHL express. Went very quickly until the NZ Post part of the journey :-)

Strange, I almost did the same. However, DHL delivered it to me in 2 days from Posting to delivering.

Nice one!  Mine's coming up to Warkworth, so hopefully won't add much extra delivery time.  I am a little confused though, because DHL Express tracking is showing "shipment is out with courier for delivery" and NZ Post tracking is showing "there is currently no tracking information available".  Estimated delivery date is actually tomorrow, but I just got excited when it was marked as out for delivery yesterday 🤣😭

Great looking photos by the way?  Are you happy with the device so far?  No 5G and VoLTE is a shame, but I was expecting that and not a deal breaker for me.

Couldn’t VoLTE not working be really bad? Isn’t there a possibility that 3G will be shut down in NZ in the next three/four years? The American networks are doing it in 2022. I don’t wanna buy a phone that becomes a brick when 3G is shut down.

Call will fail if it cannot find a 3G tower to fallback on.

I'm interested in, VoLTE and VoWIFI. Probably not on the main carriers, but, am expecting it to work with Kogan.

What I am most interested in though is, does the screening work in NZ, either with NZ as the setup or AU?

Call screen is a software functionality controlled on a regional basis. It only works in the listed countries.

It's the same as Duplex, Soli, etc.

Changing your language to one of the supported countries won't work either, believe me I've tried that haha.

So no, it won't work, sorry!

My Pixel 5a - on Spark in a 4G area with 4G displayed - making a call causes the indicator to drop back to H+/aka 3G. I believe this indicates VoLTE aka voice over 4G is not supported with the current settings. I did not anticipate this. It's concerning.

Looking at the Spark coverage map 3G coverage appears similar to 4G. In practice this looks like a non-issue apart from maybe lower voice quality {crossfingers}

Spark web does appear to advise VoLTE is required for 5G operation. At least it's a place to start..

I think folks are a bit too much with the 5g and volte stuff. 5g is barely live in 10 of Auckland for spark , and 2degrees hasn’t even started rolling it out. It will be 1 or 2 more years before it fully kicks off. It’s not like we are stuck with 2g right now , 4g is bloody fast and takes way less of a hit on battery too co pared to 5g.

2degrees doesn’t even have volte , it will be years before nz telcos starting decommissioning  3G , probably when pixel 12 comes out !

just think people are putting too much energy into 5g and volte, for my they are not buying factors at all.
