kiwitrc: Hey Hammer, have a look atthis http://www.jaycar.co.nz/productView.asp?ID=MP3658&keywords=MP3658&form=KEYWORD its a really tidy solution and then you can charge any usb from you car. I use a short USB to micro USB cable which I can also use elsewhere.
NZtechfreak: Check out Harvey Norman's selection of cell accessories Stu - for my i8910, which also used a micro USB connection, I got a spare charger and car charger together for $20 there. Works a treat with the Desire, and nice to have going foward since everyone is now going to use micro USB (go the EU and forcing standards on companies for the consumer good!).
Regards USB charging - could be a 64bit Windows 7 problem. I see a few reports of HTC Sync problems with 64bit Windows...
JellyWeb:
Output current of only 200mA - surely that'll mean a pretty slow charge? My car charger (which I got on trademe) is 1000mA - same rating as the mains adaptor that came with the Desire. Standard USB is 500mA. 200mA seems too low - do you find it charges at a pretty good rate, or does it seem like a slow charger?

You sure about that? I swear my UK charger says 0.2A...

JellyWeb: Yep. Just checked again and the charger that comes in the box is definitely 1A
