Tzoi: No but I did have a problem where my phone was apparently clogging my internet by uploading constantly (no idea what it was uploading) meaning I got a lot of lag elsewhere. Looking at my orcon usagemeter didn't show the uploads but my meter on my router was showing it. Restarted the phone and haven't had the problem any more

Hmm, I wish it were as simple as a restart! :(

EDIT: Currently reflashing my phone. Hopefully this works.

So reflashing the phone has worked so far. Hopefully the bug won't pop up again because setting everything up each time takes forever!

I think the bug happened after the minor firmware update the other day which I did OTA. I'll be updating through the PC suite from now on.

Hmm strange issue! I haven't looked at flashing since my Samsung s2 and Odin days.
Have you thought about reflashing the modem software? Not sure if you'd is still possible.

Thought about it but since nothing else in the house was having issues, I realised it had to be the phone at fault. Seems like many others have had the issue and solved it in various ways on both the phone and modem end but I'd rather have a phone functioning as it should so a reflash was the way to go.

I have used the phone a lot more in the last 24 hours, I still wouldn't buy it as my daily driver, but I am still reasonably impressed. It seems quite polarizing it, of my staff and family it was 33% loved it, 66% hated it from a feeling and build perspective.

Is anyone else not seeing expected OTA updates on their phone?  I'm getting the occasional application update through Sony's update app, but no system updates so far.

My phone - bought at the Wellington Sony store, Monday 19th - has 17.1.A.2.55.  The internet tells me 17.1.A.2.69 (pre NZ release) and 17.1.1.A.0.402 (post release) should have happened, but I've not seen either.  One of my colleagues, who bought their phone today at a Vodafone store, got the 17.1.1.A.0.402 update almost immediately after turning it on.

I've tried rebooting, clearing the data of the update application, repeatedly stabbing the check for updates button, but nothing.  Even got desperate enough to attempt checking over mobile data instead of wifi.

To Sony's credit, they're using HTTPS for their update check mechanism, so dumping the traffic at my firewall hasn't helped figure out where it's connecting to check for those updates.

I don't have any machines running Windows and Sony's desktop app isn't playing nice in a Virtualbox VM I tried, so that approach isn't going so well for me either.  I'm guessing I'll have to borrow someone's PC to run the update (if it will let me).

I've emailed Sony too, will report back if they have any useful suggestions.

I was in the same situation as I had bought from Sony store on day 1. Now the stock they had on day 1was Australian stock. They got the Vodafone NZ stock only late that week. This is why there is no update on that handset. Your handset will have a yahoo 7 app loaded.

Thanks for the quick reply, seems plausible but I definitely don't have the Yahoo app: https://imgur.com/a/cC1tL (I've disabled a few things, but that wasn't amongst them, and I don't remember uninstalling it, that's usually not even an option for that kind of crapware).  Was there any other obvious branding or just the one app?

Did you pre-order or just walk in and buy it the day they started selling them?  (Not sure if that makes a difference, just curious)

At least it's a pointer to who I have to go and yell at.

No that was it. It might be in the apps in the background. I walked in on monday morning and got it and only after I had some issues with it that I was told by Sony Store last friday I was told that the first shipment was Australian stock and they only got Vodafone NZ last friday. I picked it up when I could not update the phone and also HD voice was not working. Needless to say I pushed and got it swapped out with a Vodafone NZ handset as they had them in stock then.

The update usually roll out worldwide, regardless of carrier. BUT, they might not show up OTA, just on the PC software.

It was not showing on PC companion either. I tested it and then took it to Sony Store who tested it on their computer and there was no update.

Hmm, in my experience with Sony across four Sony Android phones, and many, many Sony Ericssons before that, the updates can often be rather delayed for carrier versions. Only the generic global phones get the updates close to straight away and the rest are delayed by carrier testing. This is why Sony roll-outs often take a month or more to reach all phones.

But you're right about OTA. If you're waiting on an update, check PC Companion/Sony Bridge for Mac. OTA updates your phone differently to the PC versions, and often this means the OTA update doesn't appear until well after it has been made available for the PC software.

However this does not explain why some people have had the latest updates and some haven't. There must be a few versions on the market I guess.

Well that was fun.  I found myself a real Windows machine here at the office and plugged my phone into it.  Whaddaya know it tells me there's an update available.

Proceeds to download what had to have been a 1.5GB+ file, spent 10 minutes flashing it.... and still running 17.1.A.2.55.

Thanks a lot, real helpful.
