We think it's best to split this thread in two - keep the Nexus 5X discussion here and continue the discussion on the Nexus 6P in the new thread here: http://www.geekzone.co.nz/forums.asp?forumid=97&topicid=183918

Has anyone got the 5X (all discussion seems to be on the 6P)
There was a topic (or post) regarding the devices incompatibility with New Zealand 4G bands and my searching is failing.

I am thinking that with Xmas coming up soon there may be some opportunities to get a 5X on sale

yep got the 5X. along with folio cover.

I'm in Wellington & lower hutt, and the 4G coverage seems to be pretty good. Haven't noticed it flake out yet.

Battery life could be a bit better, but from what i read about the previous nexus devices it's a similar problem.
I pretty much need to charge it each night, whereas previous smart phones i've had have lasted a day and a half to two days (when first bought).

love the finger print sensor on the back, and now i struggle to use my wifes phone (Galaxy 5)

That was me - Nexus 5X does not support 700MHz/Band 28 4G for 2degrees or Vodafone, only Spark/Skinny.

Really. Only supports half of the band. Lumia 830 was the same. 6P supports it fully. See posts from me earlier in one of the Nexus threads for further info.

Yes, because it supports band 3 & 7.

Check the Voda coverage map for 4G Extended vs. regular flavour 4G. Urban centres do not currently use 4G Extended.

I've got a Nexus 5X (Model H791) from PBTech ($764 during their Cyber Monday sale). I'm using it on Spark's 4G network in Christchurch. I upgraded from a iPhone 3GS so all round pretty good experience so far. Battery has about a 25% left at the end of the day, and I'm using it more than usual (new toy). The included headphones don't produce good quality audio in my opinion, and only come with a single play pause button, so I might have to upgrade those...

Interesting yours came with headphones.  I got mine from Amazon UK and it was just the handset and charger.  I usually just leave the headphones in the box anyhow, as they never fit me properly.

The battery life is good for now.  Mine still has 21% charge on it and it's just about the end of the day here. I love the USB-C charging, my phone will usually charge fully in about 1.5 hours.  The only problem is USB-C is very new, and even in the UK there are not a lot of cables and chargers around.  I went in to Carphone Warehouse the other day, and they don't even stock USB-C cables yet.

So far I like the phone.  I prefer the thumbprint reader on the back, rather than on the home key.

Interesting that it won't work on fully on Vodafone or 2D, could be interesting next time I'm back in NZ.

Anyone have any feedback on using the nexus 5x ? Looking at getting a new phone but the choices seem hard this time. I've looked at the lg g4 & note 5, lg nexus looks like a practical user phone. I've ruled out the 6P, it looks like one drop and it would break into a 1000 tiny pieces..  My current phone is galaxy s3, so well due for an upgrade.

If you're lucky you can get a Note 4 for $581 in the DSE clearance, I got one in Paraparaumu last week and they still have stock. I'm tempted to buy another for the wife at that price.

Good: light, responsive, good display and good camera. I like the pure android, gets updates fast (got 6.0.1 the other day). I've used NFC to pay for stuff (works with ANZs goMoney wallet). fingerprint reader is good.

Bad: Voice recognition doesn't always work when the phone is not awake (unlocks and then asks me to unlock before carrying out the command?) Dirt seems to accumulate in the gap around the edge of the display.Supplied headphones not very good. Like allstarNZ says, USB C cables not very common.

Battery life is fine for my normal use, but 30 mins of real racing or 30 mins of hangout video call might mean that the battery doesn't last the whole day.

Stationary warehouse have the 5x for $679
I'm considering purchasing.
Question - the model they're selling is the correct model for band 28 spark users right?
