Google have sent out invites to a launch event on Tuesday 29th September at 9AM PST. It is widely expected that two new Nexus phones will be launched:
LG Google Nexus 5X
Huawei Google Nexus 6P

What are you expecting in the new devices, and will you be getting one?

For me, I will almost certainly be ordering a 5X. I've had my Nexus 5 since launch and while I love it, it's getting a bit tired and in need of some upgraded hardware.

I'm hoping the 5X will have better battery life than the 5. While the 5 battery life is manageable, on a big day it can easily run short. I use my wireless charger a lot to help manage this, so I really hope Qi charging is still available on the 5X.

It seems likely the device will have the new USB-C plug, which is great news. This seems like the inevitable standing for the next 5 or more years, so we might as well get on with moving to it. I also like the idea of a fingerprint reader, but in reality I'm not sure I will actually make use of it.

One thing I would really like to see (And one rumour keeps my hopes up) is dual SIM support in the Nexus 5X. I have both a NZ and an AU SIM I would like to keep in one phone at all times, which especially makes it easy when travelling. The new Android Marshmallow OS apparently supports dual SIM natively (without the device manufacturer software additions needed in current dual SIM devices), so I am hoping they include that to help push that capability.

Disappointed the 6P won't have the 820, still holding thumbs though that it will be an excellent phone.

Hanging out big time for the 5X launch. My N5 (which I have also had since launch) is really starting to annoy me. Regularly having to charge before the end of the work day and the camera is just painful to use. With a young daughter it is near on useless to capture those baby shots due to the lag and awful auto focus. I still have my google play account set as US (and used youshop last time to buy the N5) so don't care how much (so long as its less than an iPhone 6S), I'll be getting a 32gb version asap!

Unfortunately the 820 won't likely be ready until next year, if the rumours are anything to go by.

I'll probably grab a 32gb 5X, assuming there's no dealbreakers.

Looks like the 6P will be the lead contender for replacing for my Xperia Z2 (which has been a great phone, but time to change).

What's not to like about this new phone - slim 7mm unibody, AMOL WQHD screen, huge battery, Android M, finger print scanner, front facing stereo etc.

Time to move to USB C, though will be expensive replacing all my chargers.

And lets hope we will be able to purchase day one from Google Play.

The only thing that scares me ... the price we may have to pay now the dollar has tanked so severely ...

I'm really liking the 6P, my impulsive side says must buy asap but my rational side says wait for the MS Surface phone

Very keen on the 5X, though there is nothing wrong at all with my Nexus 4

I won't buy anything with an 810 in it after reading about what a cluster it is. Yea yea the v2.1 fixes it all of course it does my arse.

Plus I only got my N6 a few months ago.

So I think I'll skip this interation for two reasons: 1) I can't afford a new phone when I only just bought one and 2) I don't want a 810 face-melter.

Frankly, I'm disappointed. Single SIM, no OIS on the camera, still only 16/32GB storage options, only 2GB RAM, still only 1080P screen and no mention of Qi charging.

It's barely an incremental update to the 2 year old, 2013 Nexus 5 - and in some ways has gone backwards.

It's a pathetic release. Google get a free ride with Nexus fanboys claiming "pure android iz de best" but these specs are bull$hit. Any other company released this and they'd be slammed from pillar to post.

Well, we don't know the price yet. If this turns out to be a NZ $150 phone then people will fall over themselves praising Google.

But yes, if you just compare specs and assume the same price, it's a joke.

I said i'd buy the 5X if there's no dealbreakers. While none of those missing features kill it for me alone, all of them combined make me not so sure on it.

$380USD for a 16gb is $600NZD and buying the 16gb is pointless. I expect the 32gb to be $630-700NZD, since only the 16gb pricing has been leaked. edit: this isn't even accounting for GST either.

While it also lacks some of those features, perhaps a Moto X Style or Xperia Z5 will be my next pick of choice. Both are nearly a clean version of android and have more capabilities.

Pricing leaked too. US$379 for 16GB. That's at least $599 on pure exchange rates. Call it $699 to be more realistic, and add another $100 to go to 32GB.
