SMS should really work without any set up. I had to confirgure APN settings for MMS though (search Geekzone for 'vodafone apn settings' if you need to set that up). You could try use Handcent SMS and see if you can send using that - get it free from the Market. you'll be wanting to use that rather than the standard Android Messaging app anyway.

What do you mean by "...doesn't want to send txt..."? Did it complain with any particular error? Or the txt just never arrived at the destination?

I read somewhere Vodafone NZ had some problems with distribution of SMS - the symptoms range from non-delivery to delayed delivery. Not sure if that affected you....worth asking VF for sure...

The MMS settings are towards the beginning of this thread if you need them.

Hey guys cheers for the help. Either something wrong with Vodafone or my sim so I got a 2degrees dim and now it sends fine.

I had a similar problem ages ago with a particular number, JohnR sorted it out for me, might pay to make contact with him to see if he can help. Dont try their help desk, they wont have a clue what to do.

Is anyone using some sort of power usage app? My Desire went from full to flat in about 10 hours today. I did a lot of installing and setting up of stuff. But I'd like to be able to keep a closer eye on exactly what the hungry apps are.

Is anyone using an app that manages syncs over WiFi only? I have just installed WiSync and seeing how it goes. Looks kinda promising but I have a slight niggling feeling it doesn't give fine-grained enough level of control. We shall see...

Would love to hear from anyone who has used anything similar, especially if you have multiple Google Apps accounts on your phone.

I have tried any, but I know some individual apps offer this functionality (like NewsRoom), and there are several apps that will offer this sort of thing (I recall one being discussed at Android Forums that will do things like turning on WiFi in certain cell areas, say for example near your home, that sounded promising).

You can de-select using mobile networks when WiFi unavailable in settings too, along with turning off "always on mobile network", which would offer you what you're asking for too I would think?

I visited the android market website on my Desire, but it says i need to view it from a handset. But i am! does anyone know how to fix this?

(I in aussie using virgin mobile, if that makes any difference)

Cancel that, I figured it out. you can't go to market via googling on the internet. you have to click on the market application on the phone

Oh and yaeh it is a piece of crap software.

The process is HTCVBTServer.exe , and it lives under a instance of svchost.exe.

I use process explorer to suspend it (right click on the process pick suspend), but apparently there is some command line you can use and make a batch file etc. I'll look into that when sufficently bored lol...

It'll occasionally get snotty when you un-suspend it, and play dead. In that case, I just sort the output by pathname, and KILL all the tasks unde \htc\.... and reload. It usually works then.
Process explorer is a really useful bit of software - I add columns for process cpu usage and pathname. It's really useful for tracking down those intermittent cpu hogs. You can also search via file handle - see what is locking some file all the time...

As I say, a crap piece of software for a $1000 phone....

If I couldn't sync via my gmail account i'd be really pissed off. Even when htc sync IS going, it's a bit flakey. Loses the phone sometimes.

Android market Compass i have tryed a few times yes cool, but after a few days has an error message " Abnormal magnetic field detected please recalibrate phone" so i did with the figure 8 but error still comes up,any help?

Have you done anything different with the phone. I bought a new cover for my HTC Hero that had a magnetic clasp on it. It screwed up the compass in a big way. Took about a week after removing the magnet and a number of calibrations before it calmed down.

From reading on the 'net, the compasses in HTC phones have never been that flash.

Incidentally make sure you do the figure-8s to calibrate in 3 dimensions.
