Warwick:

Pixel 7 on Spark e-sim. June feature update installed. Volte calling but still no 5G. I live in a 5G area and can't get 5G anywhere. Don't think it's the e-sim as I couldn't get 5G on the physical sim either. I'm assuming from what I see here that 5G is available without loading the patch? Any suggestions?

I have a physical Spark sim, I get 5G in Whanganui in the parts of town that have it lol. Had VoLTE for a while.

Update: I should have looked more closely at the Spark 5G coverage map. It turns out that I live and work in a coverage hole. Once I got closer to a tower I connected to 5G so the June feature drop has worked for me too.

5G is also now working on Skinny.

Also VoLTE but that was working on 4G previously too. No VoWIFI and I don't care enough to try the IMS patcher.

Exactly how I feel about VoWiFi lol

I don't take/get calls often enough - one of Those millennials lol.

In the same boat with you, and if I am taking a call on wifi I'm likey going to need to go outside or or into the garage where the wifi coverage isn't the best, so I would probably drop more calls if it worked, and the cell service where I live is good enough.

VoWifi seems like the kind of thing that if you needed it (i.e. you live somewhere with decent broadband coverage but patchy mobile coverage) you'd base a handset purchasing decision on - i.e. you wouldn't have bought a P7 if you needed it!

I certainly see no point in patching my P7P to enable it.  I am happy to see 5G working with the June update on my MVNO provider - which provided by OneNZ - even working roaming here in Aus.  I got a 580MB/s fast.com result which is great (non-roaming)

That said, I still can't for the life of me fathom a use case for that sort of speed on a mobile phone.  Big numbers, but IMHO ultimately pointless.

Move to New Zealand's best fibre broadband service (affiliate link). Free setup code: R587125ERQ6VE. Note that to use Quic Broadband you must be comfortable with configuring your own router.

Do you not need to perform real time surgery using virtual reality with the patient in another country from your phone? Or stream multiple 8K TV shows at the same time?

Just got the June update and can confirm I now have 5G on my Pixel 7 Pro. Not super-fast where I am right now, but definitely better than LTE.

Real world mobile-only 5G speeds are not _that_ useful. However, I use my P7P a lot for tethering so decent speeds are actually quite useful when working on a laptop away from the house.

Interested to know out of the box VoWiFi and SMS over WiFi support for Spark and 2D if some of you are using that.

OOB - VoWiFi does not work with any of the providers here in NZ. You can easily enable it with the patch, as for SMS over WiFi. If Voice over Wifi is enabled and the provider supports sending SMS via VoWiFi, your device would know how to do it (anyway). IMHO, you could easily test it out with pixelims patcher :)

I had something interesting turn up in my Google One app overnight.

A New Zealand-Only $7 Google Play account credit, in place of the Google One VPN (which they took off me in February).

Wonder if this is also another sign towards Google actually setting up "Shop" in New Zealand and selling us Handsets/Tablets directly like Aussie.

Looks like we might be getting official Pixel 8 - Google listed NZ https://pixel.withgoogle.com/5G/ in their 5G setup , which suggests to me that we might be getting something soon. Plus 5G is working on all major providers here in NZ

Like NZGeek pointed out, I got the same offer too. So something is definitely brewing

I hope it is true as I would like my next hand piece to be a Pixel. As for 5G for me that is not a big deal on my iPhone Pro at the odd times I have connected to 5G I really haven't seen anything inspiring and here in Te Awakairangi the only provider with a 5G presence is ONE NZ and that is only a very small smudge.

It will be nice to see Google give Aotearoa some meaningful aroha.
