Buying from an?XT store to retain a NZ warrenty is a definate bonus for me,

What are your thoughts? I live in Hamilton North so coverage is good, and have wifi at home / work etc.
is the 3g drop only noticable in rural type situations?

Have you considered galaxy s2 from vodafone?

My 2 cent, I strongly advise you not to get the phone from telecom if you are planning to use it with vodafone. Some areas only have 3g/wcdma 900mhz coverage but no GSM at all.

If sensation is your first choice, buy one from local parallel importers.

Clove.co.uk would be a better bet if you want to avoid the chinese apps

FWIW: There is no Chinese / other language apps on mine, it came from Hong Kong

Holy Moly, there has been a price drop. It's come down $100 since 2 weeks ago when I ordered mine.... always happens though aye! Pricespy has it for $705 locally - which will be the Vodafone / GSM version, not the Telecom / XT version.

I'm not surprised tho. HTC realized that sensation is not on par with galaxy s2. I guess they have to repositioned the product. $705 locally? All of sudden I have the urge to order one!

I walked to work today for the first time since getting the Sensation. (A sick dog with regular vet needs kept me in the car for the past couple of weeks.)

On Vodafone I have a 20 minute stretch of my walk (each way - so 40 mins total) along Sunset Rd between Glenfield Rd and the Northern Motorway where GPRS and 3G data is all but non-existent as I walk along the road.

I did it today on the Telecom XT network and 3G data was 100%, full speed every step of the way along the same stretch of road. That makes a big difference to me.

Tragically, at least as far as I'm concerned, neither XT nor VF have good signal into Northern Glendowie, my home being marked as 'fair' on Telecom's official coverage map, and VF's signal similarly limited.

Poo.

The nearest cell site as the crow flies, is in St Heliers village but the rising terrain ensures it's not line of sight. The same terrain restrictions apply to the next nearest site which is at the EastMed/Joel Grace complex.

So unless TNZ and VF decide to whack up another tower on the high ground around these parts, (probably never going to happen due to the NIMBY sensibilities in the area), I'm not going to enjoy any high speed 3G at home.

Thankfully, most everyplace else in the East has coverage for Africa, so signal is dandy practically as soon as I'm off the property.

If it is an issue, you could consider getting a femocell from VF, but then your home line would need to be with them...

So why is ArtooDetoo talking about not being able to enjoy any high speed 3G at home. It's a situation which has even led him to exclaim "poo" ;-)

On another note, can anyone confirm that Electron World doesn't charge GST but you may get hit with it at Customs? Whereas if you purchased from Expert Infotech, you would pay GST...just seems that the price difference between Electron World is less than GST, so am left wondering why you would purchase through them (unless of course GST is completely avoided).
