use syncmypix, use manual matching if you must, this is best solution rather than hacks / workarounds.

So the problem is that none of your contact pictures will show up in the messaging part of the app??

It may be some setting or theme you installed. Some of the themes / templates might actually not have pictures in that part of the app by design.

Try : Settings -> Applications -> Manage Applications -> Downloaded -> Go SMS Pro -> Clear Cache

Otherwise do above then uninstall go SMS + any themes , and then reinstall go SMS.

Have not altered or added any themes. This is my 2nd try at installing go sms so have already uninstalled and reinstalled. Also tried restarting phone after altering the pic settings.
Cleared the cache anyway and no change. Very weird.

All I really want is to get rid of the awful bubble conversations in the stock app!

Cheers for ya suggestions

And you are saying you had the desired contact photos within messages when you used go sms on your htc, but not on when using go sms on your current phone.

Yep, previously it worked fine on my Desire, and will not on my One X. I used Go sms for a year or so on the Desire.
I rooted my Desire, but I'm pretty sure I was using it before I rooted

Interesting, I logged into my Google contacts on my pc to manually set a pic on a mate there to see if that would work.
Google has automatically used FB profile pics... But not for all, have not yet worked out why some and not others. Is not to do with "starred in Android" or ones I regularly contact. Weird!

didn't you use syncmypix, that woulda pulled the FB profile pics and put them into google contacts for the contacts that it successfully matched up.
