Anyone else have problems displaying contact pictures?

they show up in the stock messaging/contacts app.

But any other app for SMS or Contacts does not display this contacts pictures from Facebook.

have tried many many syncing apps and a few other things to no avail.

has anyone sussed this out and can offer some insight?

cheers!

Viv

I have the same issue, pictures show fine in stock contact app, but only those from google/google+ come up in handcent sms app, not the facebook pics.

I have an SGSII, running stock ICS. The fact that @loganjames has it working fine suggests that we may have missed a setting somewhere? Although I thought I had been through most settings and didnt see anything relevant

This is because facebook doesn't let google access the facebook info. Ie. google contacts (vanilla android) can't take the contact pictures from ur facebook contacts and store them as google contact photos.

You can link a google contact and a facebook contact together in touchwhizz and this will then display the facebook photo in the linked contact entry, but the google contact entry on its own wont have a picture.  To do this you choose to synch all facebook contacts, then manually link them all in the address book.  The link is saved on your phone but the link is not saved on google contacts, so if you change your phone you loose all the links.

However, there is an app that will take the facebook profile pics and apply them to your google contacts account based on email address matching and name matching.

EDIT: The app is called syncmypix

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.nloko.android.syncmypix&hl=en

The problem occurs because we are dealing with 2 seperate address books, your facebook address book and your google contacts address book.  There is no specific unique ID that tells your phone that a facebook contact entry is the same person as a particular google contact entry, and therefore your phone is unable to dispay a facebook profile photo.

Hey guys,
I'm sure you would have tried this but I was playing with the message apps you mentioned and each one make mention of a Social/Facebook thing in the settings. Have you tried these?

Chomp:

GO SMS Pro:

Handcent SMS:

Hope this helps?

if you use syncmypix you should be able to get the facebook contact pictures in handcent/chomp/goSMS

HaxSync (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.mots.haxsync&hl=en) is also fairly helpful - the photos stored via gmail/google contacts have a limited resolution (as compared to those stored on Google+ or Facebook).  HaxSync synchronises the higher res photos from Facebook so you don't have horribly pixellated pictures in your ICS dialler.

Known issue, either use an alternative Facebook app (I recommend Friendcaster Pro) or use SyncMyPics to dump the images into the regular contacts database.

Friendcaster is a better client IMO so it's a win all around.

Cheers, syncmypix didnt work it seems to sync only 5-6 pictures out of all of my contacts :D

given up again :D

only way seems to be to go to facebook app and click on someones profile picture and go "set as" the "contact picture"

works but takes a long time as you would imagine.

I'm using a SGS2 on stock ICS, and Haxsync works great for me - the catch is there isn't an application in the app drawer, it's only accessed through settings - accounts and sync.  Might be worth another try if this is why it didn't work for you.

I think its worse the fact that the pictures it pulls from Google+ are so horribly low res. Hate to think what they look like on a Galaxy Nexus, they look bad enough on my Desire.

Have had some success deleting facebook and putting on friendcaster, deleting the cache and syncing.
