Wade: Maybe the human thumb has increased in length over the last few months hence necessitating the need for a massive 4inch screen?

Anyway I thought Samsung released the iPhone5 back in May earlier this year?

Saw on Twitter this morning that goophone (sp?) were going to sue apple for copying their iphone5 knockoff once released lol

Hee. Maybe called iPhone S4........... To compete against the iGalaxy.....

+1

All good gear. Some prefer A over B some prefer B over A , but all good tech.
Be nice to discuss for a change rather than run down. Good post rupene.

I'll be interested to see the fallout over the new dock connector.

It will, but short lived I expect. Creates room, but I like the sturdyness of the wider dock. I assume and expect that there will be free or dirt cheap adapters

They could just use a MicroUSB OTG connector like the rest of the world and have new devices just be USB slaves, but Apple.

They could make a USB device -> dock adaptor, but it'll probably be $50 as per usual. If they don't do a Micro Dock --> Dock adaptor VERY cheaply then there will be a lot of screaming, but they may not care.

I do however agree, that the more substantial connector does instil much greater confidence, I'm always half expecting my MicroUSB port to tear out. (Jawbone Jambox anyone?)

I hope so. My current ipod touch is the second gen, and many apps don't work on it anymore due to them not being compatible with ios versions older than versions 5. The current ipod version is 2 years old and didn't really offer much more then the 2nd genration one apart from a low quality camera which I don't need anyway. I hope it has the iphone camera and voice recognition

When the big announcement comes I will look at it with respect to the following;

Apple Innovation

Purchased Innovation

Catch Up

Design and Aesthetics

I do hope it is a major step up from the rounded rectangle with a grid of icons on a 3.5" screen. Can't do widgets or live tiles though, so I am not expecting too much. I note this announcement doesn't seem to be as hyped as last year. Perhaps they have learnt their lesson after the 4S failed to meet the expectation.

I would like to see a redesign of the iOS interface. For me that interface is tired and need a lot of improvement.

If they do increase the screen size, I wonder how are they going to justify it.

How do you mean by justify? As in why they increased screen size, or how they will populate it?

Assuming the latter, from what I gather, it will be an exciting new extra row of icons. Move over Android, we are a 6 row phone now! Yawn. Seriously though, not much to see. Extra row of icons is of minimal benefit, maybe a bit handy. If its in landscape mode, browsing won't benefit as the top to bottom is the same. Video yes.

Better yes, Much, no. Id have preferred a 4.5, so as not to increase form factor too much.
