I don't see why it would be so urgent to get this update, the current Store still works fine

May be related to the announcement regarding Music on the Play Store that just been announced for NZ. I don't see music as an option currently on my Play Store (not eh updated one).

New store not required, clear data in the Play Store via Setting-->Apps and it should appear (it did for me, although it the same old Play Store).

NZtechfreak: Interesting, I cleared app data on the Play Store to see if that prompted the update - it didn't, but Google Music is now there on the old app store.

Having seen this post, I tried this as well, and now I can safely quote the old AOL saying:

"Me too!"

(Still on Playstore 3.whatever)

Google Music prices seem to be slightly lower than iTunes for albums (based on a VERY small sample set of "a quick glance"); however, individual tracks seem to the same price as "that other store".

The new Google Play *is not required* for Google Play Music.
