@ nzgeek lo and behold, comma bottom left no long press needed.

Just installed Google Keyboard on a 7" tablet and set the language settings to English UK during the process.
There is a comma in the normal qwerty position to the right of the m on lowercase alphabetical keyboard, and also one on the symbols keyboard.

Problem I found with this is that it shows the pound sign instead of the dollar sign on the symbols page.

Just tap the =\< key above ABC for more options and a $ sign

Johnk: Nzgeek, long press on microphone and change it to show on symbols keyboard, gives you a comma on the front main keyboard.

Sure, you can do this, but again it's not obvious. That's my whole point - the second most used punctuation symbol is all but invisible, unless you know where to look. It's really bad user interface design.

It also means you have to choose between voice input (handy at times) or having a comma. Why can't I have both?

The keyboard uses different layouts depending on whether you're using a phone or a tablet. The tablet layout has space for a few more keys, such as putting the comma and full stop after M. You can see both layouts in the screen shots in the Play Store.

Or press and hold the £ symbol and you and you will get several other currency symbols including $, yen etc.

I have been using this keyboard on my GN since 4.2.2 came out. I moved from Swype because there were a few annoyance in Swype which bugged me. It's not as fully featured as Swype but I find it fine. The lack of a comma on the phone is an annoyance and also I tend to use the ? a fair bit but often end up typing ).

One of the issues with TeamEOS AOSP JB ROM for the Motorola Xoom is keyboard lag in the AOSP keyboard. Installing this one seems to have fixed the problem. That's a nice bonus.

Installed on my HP Touchpad running CM9. Works a treat, and I find it much faster than pecking at keys.

Happy customer, comma included :)
