After my first try I like it better than Swype, seems far more accurate.

1. Does the finger typing work while off-line from Google?

2. Have you tried the voice typing feature - opinion? Does the voice typing work while off-line from Google?

For anyone who hasn't used this before, it's just the AOSP keyboard you find in stock android and aosp roms such as cyanogenmod. But with a few tweaks, eg you can now adjust long press duration.

I still find SwiftKeys predictions better though.

I've gotten tired of Swiftkey and this seems like a better alternative.

The main issue I have with swiftkey is how hard it is to go back and correct things, and trying to type urls when the keyboard isn't aware you are typing URL and wants to change words and put spaces after every full stop.

Swiping works only for English. Doesn't work on other supported languages.

I have a one word reason why I'm not a fan of the Google/AOSP keyboard: comma.

There is no visible comma on the keyboard. There is one available if you long-hold the full stop key, but there is no visible indication that shows you can do this. You can also tap on your word at the top of the keyboard, and a list of punctuation characters should be shown.

Comma is used too frequently to make it undiscoverable. It should at least be shown on the front of a key, if not given its own key.

OK I can type www.website.co.nz and it doesnt insert spaces.

@ nzgeek lo and behold, comma bottom left no long press needed.

Works in French and German which are the only two I know words for, so I assume it will work in others as well.

...only if you go into the keyboard settings and turn off the voice option, otherwise there's a little mic button there, not a comma Laughing

I just checked, and it's still absent from the qwerty keyboard. It only shows just left of the space bar when you hit the symbol key.

Compare this with the Swype keyboard, where you can long-press on most keys to get a secondary character, or hold to get a pop-up window with accented characters, etc. I haven't looked at SwiftKey in a while, but I'm sure it must be similar.

Nzgeek, long press on microphone and change it to show on symbols keyboard, gives you a comma on the front main keyboard.
