bmt: Display seems a bit trash too, relatively speaking.. 1280 x 720?

That's a decent screen resolution for the screen size of 4.7" - the pixel density of 312ppi is only slightly less than iphone 5 (326 ppi)

Hmmm. It doesn't allow me to set which Exchange folders to sync, like the HTC One does.

freitasm: Just got it delivered here now:

Any questions, fire away...

OK.  From my post above
"Just hope it doesn't have the same "feature" that their Ascend Y300 (Telecom Y300) has. When you exit from a WiFi zone the 3G is not turned on automatically. You have to do it manually."??

Does it hand back to 3G without intervention??

Seems like an alright phone, feels like its been released a year late though. This may be viable for someone looking for a mid-high range if its at a decent price point here in NZ. Can't see it taking flight as stated before one could get the nexus 4 or s3.

The phone switches between 3G and WiFi seamlessly.

Now, I put a 2degrees SIM card to test it and loaded 1GB. My everyday HTC One uses about 700 MB a month. This Ascend chewed through 250MB a day in the last three days. Hard reset it today, installed Onavo only and my Exchange account over WiFi. After the account was completely in sync I turned WiFi off and Onavo reports Exchange used up 90MB already on 3G.

I am going to install Touchdown to test but something strange going on. I know this is a test handset so I will check with Huawei about it too.

Check what your Google account is syncing. It caught me out when it decided to sync a series of photo albums. A general Android issue.

As I said, it's an Exchange account, not Google. I have reset the phone, created the account again and it went through 80MB in 60 minutes, after the account was fully synchronised over WiFi.

I have removed the account again and installed Touchdown. Mobile data usage is not even close to a megabyte on that.

Seeing my HTC One uses 700MB a month, I'd say something is wrong with the Exchange sync in the Huawei implementation.

I didn't think you could activate an android phone without a Google account. Every android device I've looked at has one. Hence my comment to check what it is syncing. If your phone has no Google references under settings>accounts then disregard my posts as you have already. But while you're in there check there's no other accounts syncing, e.g dropbox etc

Not sure whether to post this here or in its own thread - but here goes:

You can have an Android device without a Google account, but then you have very limited use since you can't access Google Play Market.

I do have a Google account defined, but I will say again it's a problem with Exchange sync because I am running a metering app and it points out exactly what is using the mobile data, and it tells me it is the Exchange sync.

I see there are reports of a similar problem with Android Exchange and a tool to log requests. I will check that.

This smartphone is coming out on 2degrees today:

Huawei and 2degrees are launching the new Huawei Ascend P6 today. The P6 is the world’s slimmest smartphone measuring just 6.18mm, and features a 1.5GHz quad-core processor in a sleek metallic body. With its 4.7-inch high definition in-cell display, industry-leading 5MP front-facing camera, and outstanding software, the Huawei Ascend P6 is the embodiment of elegance with an edge.

“The Huawei Ascend P6 is a star among smartphones with its industry-leading design, high-quality camera, and intuitive user interface, Huawei’s Emotion UI,” said Richard Yu, Chief Executive Officer, Huawei Consumer Business Group. “Building on the success of our Ascend P series of smartphones, the Huawei Ascend P6 provides unsurpassed technology and a design that is simply stunning.”

Huawei New Zealand Head of Devices Jacky Zhao said it was a hugely exciting launch as it marked the first time the Ascend P series, which combines high performance with cutting edge design, had been available to New Zealand consumers.

“This is a flagship device for the Ascend P-series and we think people will be surprised and impressed by what Huawei is able to achieve with these devices.”

Tim Hayward, 2degrees Head of Mobile Devices, says “we are delighted to be the first NZ network to be launching Huawei’s flagship Smartphone for 2013. Huawei is a very important technology partner for us and we are pleased to support the huge leap forward they are taking with the release of the P6.”

Perfect for ‘selfies’, the Huawei Ascend P6’s industry-leading 5MP front-facing camera and auto facial-enhancing capabilities create model-gorgeous shots you’ll want to share. Its 8MP rear-facing BSI camera with F2.0 aperture and 4cm macro view also enables 1080P full HD video recording and playback. With Huawei’s proprietary IMAGESmart software, the Huawei Ascend P6 turns even the most novice photographer into a professional, with contrast and colour enhancement, auto scene recognition, object tracing focus, and instant facial beauty support.

The Huawei Ascend P6 is available in black and white with matching colour cases. It has an RRP of $599 and is available for $0 upfront on a 2degrees $69 CarryoverPlan from September 2nd 2013. Available from 2degrees stores and selected resellers.

Nope. I had the unit sent back to possibly have it updated but never heard back on this.
