The Huawei Ascend P6 was announced last night and it seems they have these devices arriving in New Zealand around August. No pricing yet but they have review units available so I will be getting one here soon.

The HUAWEI Ascend P6, the world’s slimmest smartphone measuring 6.18mm. The smartphone features a 1.5GHz quad-core processor and a sleek metallic body. With its 4.7-inch high definition in-cell display, industry-leading 5MP front-facing camera, and outstanding software, the HUAWEI Ascend P6 is the embodiment of elegance with an edge.

HUAWEI Ascend P6 is ultra slim at 6.18mm and weighs just about 120g. While it is small enough to slip into the tiniest of pockets or clutch bags, the stylish HUAWEI Ascend P6 is designed to be seen and coveted! It features a 1.5GHz quad-core processor, Android 4.2.2 operating system, 2000mAh battery, 4.7-inch HD in-cell LCD screen technology, and ‘MagicTouch’ for enhanced screen responsiveness even when wearing gloves.

Looks the part for sure. They don't seem to be too forthcoming with full specs for some reason (storage etc)

8GB ROM seems a bit miserly for a flagship phone, especially given the restrictions in recent versions of Android moving apps to SD, and Google Play movies etc.

Just hope it doesn't have the same "feature" that their Ascend Y300 (Telecom Y300) has. When you exit from a WiFi zone the 3G is not turned on automatically. You have to do it manually.

It looks to me that the selling point is its thinness, and thinness only, as the hardware specs are not that flash at all, at least not if you want to call it your flagship product.

Shame about the low memory and lack of LTE. Otherwise I really like it!

I am keen on a high spec dual SIM phone. Would be handy have my NZ and AU SIMs in the same device always, and allow me to have two SIMs running when overseas. (One local, one roaming)

Thanks, but I would prefer 2x active SIMs. Don't want to have to cycle between them.

I would still buy the nexus 4. Plain and simple the best phone for that price. Otherwise the S3 is still viable and better than the P6 and also Sony has a few in that price bracket. There are also all manner of windows phones for that price like the Samsung Ativ S, possibly the 920.

But then again, it may follow all its brethren like the p1, p2, mediapad 10, ascend d series, honour series and we will just never see or hear about it down here in kiwiland. Meh, I'm just over Huawei :)

I will never understand this desire for worlds thinnest phone. I reckon it's bloody uncomfortable to hold a phone that's too thin. Slips through the hands, feels fragile.

Around $500 in the hand I'd have a look but the Sony Xperia SP is a hard phone to beat, at the standard 'flag ship' price point of around $1000 forget it.
