Engadget have a review. Quite in depth, but I'm still wondering why they slight it and talk up the pebble. The reviewer doesn't seem to offer any insight into what they actually want asmartwatch to achieve in their experience. But I guess if people have never worn a watch in pre cellphone days they don't understand the convenience of flicking the wrist. Engadget Smartwatch Review

I unpacked my Sony Smartwatch 2 yesterday. Wow it's big. Its bigger than the MN2. But the screen is nice. I was expecting all pixelated, because that is what the reviewers said, but its not. Love the at a glance notifications and the always on transreflective screen. Haven't charged it yet, so can't comment on the micro usb socket, but it cant be worse than the abortion of an attachment in the old MN2 watch. Setup was painless, mostly because I already had all the addon apps loaded for my old watch. I bought both straps, the stainless steel is HEAVY. Very glad I bought the silicon strap option, it's so much lighter. So far I'm very happy with it.

Very impressed. The Sw2 works without the paired phone! So this morning I turned the watch on before the phone, I can see the time, check all the notifications that were current as of late night etc. This is a huge improvement over the old MN2, which was totally useless if it didn't have a constant connection with the paired phone. Also the strap is way longer, I was using the second to last notch on the old watch, I'm using the middle of nine notches on the new one. The Vibrate motor is stronger on the new one, almost too powerful, you get a strong buzz on the wrist if you wander out of range of your phone. So far connection and reconnection has been reliable, it was rather hit and miss on the old watch. I'll continue to add comments here as I use the watch more.

I had a short play with one, couldn't try it on as the band is too short to fit over my hand.

Without being paired to a device, there's also very little you can do with it.

Build quality seems nice though, and the strap is a standard (20mm?) fitting so can put whatever onto it. Screen is nice & sharp.

I'm loving the daylight especially sunlight viewing of the screen.

I'm giving it the first battery runout test, it's been on since Sunday morning. I have taken it off at night and I notice that the screen goes blank once left dormant for some time, but as soon as you move it it's back showing the time again. I guess it's less battery power to monitor the movement sensor than run the dimmed display.

It did it's first hissy fit yesterday where it requested to be re-paired - saying I would lose data, but as soon as it got reconnected it was all happy and back to normal.

This new SW2 is great in that it has alarms and 'normal' watch features that function even without the accompanying phone being on (or in range).

The genuine Sony Silicon strap is long, would suggest it for big hands.

Battery went flat after three days (and two nights). Maybe will get four to five days if I turn it off at night. Will see if the battery improves after the first discharge cycle. I had the guy at CourierPost asking me about my watch today when I went to pick up a parcel, I didn't think it was that hugely obvious!

A firmware update rolled out yesterday. New watch faces, a stopwatch and a few other goodies like it shows more of Gmail notifications etc. There's more to love about this watch now. I got 6 days use on a charge recently, that's with turning it off each night.

Have I told you how much I like my watch? This is sooo much better than the old one. I especially like that I can turn the bluetooth off when I'm in the plane and the time etc all continues to operate nicely.

Since the last firmware upgrade Sony has opened up the facility for 3rd party apps to access the power saving transreflective mode so you can use their watch faces as a main screen. They do seem to use the battery slightly more than the Sony ones tho.

Since my phone has upgraded to 4.3 the notifications work better, I tried augmented, then watchit, but am now using wristn to filter additional notifications to the watch.

I would recommend this watch to anybody that's a little bit techy. Once you get it set up it all works very sweetly.

I had an issue with my sW2 which reared it's head in late January. The screen looked as if it had water damage or else the glue was delaminating at one edge. So after a protracted series of emails to expansys they finally agreed to me sending it back for repair. To cut a long story short, I eventually received a replacement watch last week. 2 months without my beloved sW2. In its absence there has been a fantastic software upgrade which now has Custom watch faces, notifications which can be cleared from either watch or handset and general tidying up of the handset interface. I now use Watchify which handles notifications very nicely. TLDR: Got my watch replaced, loving it to bits.

Does anyone else have a Sony SW2? Is anyone interested in a genuine Sony metal watch band? Part of my long story I missed, was the fact I now have two metal bands and no silicon band. You can't buy these metal bands separately. If anyone's interested we can work out a deal.

Almost a year on form the first posts here I wonder what the verdict is now for our Dick Tracey wantabes?
