sqlpro: Jeffnz,
I read a cm post that they are never going to release stable version for s3 only nightlies .
I absolutely love camera from touchwiz , I tried several apps from app store but always end up back to Samsung. Easy of use, speed, quality, that voice activation.
Anyway how good is custom Roms camera?
And recommendation for custom ROM I should try. I use Google apps, maps, gmail heavily if that makes any difference.
Thanks for the advise.

How is the battery usage?
Any other issues should know about?
Thanks
My views (except when I am looking out their windows) are not those of my employer.
jeffnz: CM isn't based on Samsung rom so you lose most things Sammy and touchwiz, however there are samsung based Roms that are basically the same but have had bloatwre taken out and tweaked kernel's etc so you won't notice any differance to stock in that respect only performance enhancement.
Plenty of good Roms but if you just want one that is good battery life and not heavely themed or tweaked Wanam's is one of the best.
try here and check out the vid, as you will see it differs little from stock.

reading thru the forum ,talks about flashing kernels, modems etc., sounds too complicated.

don't worry about modems and kernels they ae included in the rom. You can change modem and kernel once you have installed the Rom.
You will need a custom recovery installed if you don't have one. try here .
I would recommend Titanium backup as it is an easy way of restoring all your apps after flashing new rom as you will need to factory reset/wipe phone so although it doesn't dlete anything on your SD card it will wipe system.
select Rom of your choice, follow Dev's instruction and you're there.
sqlpro: found settings ignore my last post ,thanks.

grats welcome to the flashers club, hmm doesn't sound right.
It won't be much differant to stock except quicker smoother and better battery life. He also deletes a lot of the Samsung bloatware buit you can re install if required.
Try titanium backup it saves a lot of mucking around when restoring apps.
Also try Nova or Apex launcher they give you more features for your desktop etc, Nova Prime (paid) actually restores your desktop for you when you do a reset. (I use nova prime have for sometime)
Nova launcher
if you install one of those launchers you can also use this app to theme your icons, its free and looks ok

its for my wife's phone. we do use quite a bit video calls but it appears custom ROMs dont implement this feature (atleast CM i checked). thats why am looking something based on touchwiz like wanamlite rather than pure android.

darkyrom will be the one then its sammy based TW, their main thing was kernel modification as they had one of the better kernel devs in ficeto.
