Hi guys

just wondering if samsung galaxy s3 ever going to get any further updates (currently on 4.1.2) ? i wonder since 4.3 already out .

is it worth waiting or dare and try some custom roms ? i would like to wait official ROM if one coming rather than installing custom ROM that may not be fully stable for S3. i read articles that samsung's chip (exynos) not open sourced and difficult to create stable ROMs it seems.

Thanks for your views.

Since Samsung dictate the release dates they're the only people who can answer this... And they don't seem particularly forthcoming

talk is that the S3 will miss 4.2.2 and go straight for 4.3 when that will be, who knows the S4 hasn't got it yet but with the Samsung roadshow releasing new stuff next week iut may be then. Problem you then have is for the telco's to get it then send back to Samsung to release so don't hold your breathe

Not sure what you mean by custom roms unstable as they, for the most part , are more so than stock and certainly perform better.

Personally i would advise to take the plunge and do a custom but I'm biased anyway. However its that or get frustrated waiting for updates.

I just took the plunge and installed CM 10.2 4.3 on my SIII. If you aren't too worried about your warranty then give it a go. It is pretty awesome. Seems to be so much faster than stock Samsung...

My views (except when I am looking out their windows) are not those of my employer.

Jeffnz,
I read a cm post that they are never going to release stable version for s3 only nightlies .

I absolutely love camera from touchwiz , I tried several apps from app store but always end up back to Samsung. Easy of use, speed, quality, that voice activation.

Anyway how good is custom Roms camera?

And recommendation for custom ROM I should try. I use Google apps, maps, gmail heavily if that makes any difference.

Thanks for the advise.

How is the battery usage?

Any other issues should know about?
Thanks

CM isn't based on Samsung rom so you lose most things Sammy and touchwiz, however there are samsung based Roms that are basically the same but have had bloatwre taken out and tweaked kernel's etc so you won't notice any differance to stock in that respect only performance enhancement.

Plenty of good Roms but if you just want one that is good battery life and not heavely themed or tweaked Wanam's is one of the best.

try here and check out the vid, as you will see it differs little from stock.

I have the S4 now and move between Wanam and at the moment a rom called Bobcatrom, its 4.2.2.

Wanam is a good first time to custom if you know what I mean as it isn't a lot differant, Omega Rom is also very good but has a lot of themeing and mods.

just remember that you do have the option to revert back to stock so if you root  it isn't irreversible

you can take it back to virtually out of the box in case of warranty issues, there is a thread on un-rooting in zda S3 threads
