freitasm: Have anyone tried the Chromecast with this service yet?

And it seems it's movies only, not TV at the moment for NZ accounts.

Will play around with it tonight on Chromecast.

Looking though at the movie content, I must say I am impressed and I may even stop using Vudu. Time will tell.

The nice thing about this is that it will compete directly with Quickflix. (Well for movies anyway). The more competition the better.

Seakiwi: Did you buy HD or SD?

HD will only play on Android devices not in browser on a PC.

That's probably it. I bought the HD version. On the PC it offers me the SD version.

It might be nice to allow me to play the SD version on the PC if I have already bought the HD version on my phone.....having already paid a premium.

The subject line referred to the name of the app....I hadn't really had a chance to do more than buy a movie and play it when I posted. I was pretty excited to be able to do even that! Previously, I have only seen movies and TV on my Android phones while visiting Canada...and it disappeared when I arrived back in Auckland.

Works great just tried it with transformers dark side of the moon (movie i got free with nexus 7 last year).

Put app on my phone, open "play movie & tv" connected it to chromecast and hit play.
Chrome cast started playing in HD (steaming via wifi as movie not on my phone)

What is the reason for this?

According to Googles own FAQ information this should work over MHL too, which suits me down to the ground.

That's about the same as Apple chargers to buy movies..  But it's good to see they have finally arrived.  Now to just get access to the hardware store  with out  having to jump thru hoops to get there..

Looks like we're not the only ones, and also not the only ones to miss out on TV

Google Movies maybe expanded into New Zealand but with limited catalogue and higher prices compared to USA. Here is the result of search for "dead like me"

I suspect that the content provides here decide the price we pay so that they ratchet them up knowing that there's not many places to legally go to..

I wouldn't hold out for any recent TV content with the three big Gorillas sitting in the corner who want to hold on to every thing they can. If it's anything like the Ozz iTunes store for TV it's not worth having..

was looking at movies last night, way to expensive to buy IMO. lots of old movies for $24.99 which you can buy on dvd/bluray for $15.

there was one free something sheep, claymation, i played that from my tablet to my chromecast but it looked horrible, might have been the video was just super low SD, didnt want to spend $25 to test a HD movie...

I'll stick with the Dunedin Public Library in the meantime, 3 blu-ray or dvd rentals for $6.

I get the tightness from my Grandfather, he squeaked when he walked.
