I just installed this app on my SGS4 and bought a movie.

Looks like it's now a live service in NZ.

Thanks for the tip.  I've always been able to use the US Play store since buying a device from there but I have previously had to use a VPN to try Play Movies.  Now it's Apps, Books, Music and Movies that are available in NZ

Yep, works for me, although my account was previously in some mixed up state where I could see movies and TV but couldn't pay for them from NZ. Now works!

Shame about the price though. $7 to hire? $5 for Blu-Ray hire is just fine, thanks all the same.

the prices are in line with other services (xbox, ps4, vudu, itunes, eziflix, quickflix). so thats fine. dont think ill buy a movie that I cant download, well not until google tv or something is popular so its fully integrated into the tv and doesnt require a tablet etc hooked  up or chromecasting.

I'm in 2 minds about this....

My gut tells me that even if we had devices I would still be buying via the US play store.

Just checked my wife's play account, movies only, no TV and a different selection available than I can see directly on the US play store movie site

Edit:

My account is still in some strange world where I am accessing the US site (without an unblocker on my phone) and where I could see but couldn't pay before I can now buy movies or TV in US$ from that site .... go figure

That doesn't 'compute'

The devices in the US come with US plugs and the LTE versions don't work here so why on earth would you continue to use the US Playstore?

Bought my nexus 4 and chromecasts via the US playstores.

My comment was more around the prices. Even if we had devices here it would still be cheaper buying via the US.
Aus has devices and its loads more expensive than the same devices in the states.

The movie I bought on my phone won't play on a PC logged into the same Google Play account....so either it's not fully operational yet or it isn't working as I expected it to work.

I do have the option of downloading the movie to my phone...and I could them play the movie from the phone to the TV.....

I'm just playing with this model of content delivery. If I can't watch it anywhere I want to watch it then I'll be very careful how I spend my money....

Did you buy HD or SD?

HD will only play on Android devices not in browser on a PC.

Have anyone tried the Chromecast with this service yet?

And it seems it's movies only, not TV at the moment for NZ accounts.

I have used my chromecast to send TV programs in HD from my N7 to my plasma TV, works just fine so can't see it being any different for movies. Content can be downloaded first to the device for offline playback if you want or sent directly from the web to the chromecast but controlled from the N7 (or N4 in my case)
