I'm not going to go all "fanboi", but....
Actually I am.
It's Samsung's fault I'm no longer a Samsung fan and this just makes it easier. The fact my phone got 4.4.2 quicker than my S4 did makes believe they just don't care.
I'd understand if it wasn't going to happen to a midrange, but this was their biggest seller!
.

never let a chance go by, thought you would have tired of trashing samsung and just stuck with the Sony admiration society. Never seen the point of trashing something I no longer owned, just moved on.

It is now more than 2 years old, and has had 3 iterations of OS updates on it and has been succeeded by 2 versions of the Galaxy S line. It has done pretty well compared to a number of other phones. Anyone who bought the One X was probably annoyed that the S3 made it to 4.3 to name one of the competitors from the same time frame.

So, still owned. And so I'm disappointed.

That's true. The 4.3 update was a real cracker. It tidied things up nicely and really improved the battery life of my phone.

I guess the S3 is now really a mid range phone spec's wise so it's probably not worth the time and effort required to keep the OS current.

That leaked document is interesting - "Update Status: canceled for now"

What! are they going to have another look at it sometime in the future?

See the fact I still have the S3 and the Mrs expects me to update her (my old) S4.

Well, now, my S3 wont be updated... I'm not gunna fanboi sony. I'm genuinely disappointed that my ex-flagship phone wont get a decent update. It runs like a dog due to bloat and I'm sick of running custom firmware that makes other things not work properly, camera for instance.

I've spent over NZ$3000 on samsung phones in 20 months just to have 2 die and have mainboards replaced, one to get no updates unless you run overseas firmware (until recently) and now this.
I think I have a right to bitch and moan.

Off Topic from the thread so was going to send you a pm but that seems to be disabled for you. PM me about this.

I would love it if they updated it, but it is 23 months old, outside of googles 18 month recommended

But still its a phone with a quad core cpu, 1gb should be enough, it was enough for 4, 4.1, 4.3 and 4.4. They probably just want people to decide their phone is old and get an S5

Not only that, but many people would have purchased it within the 1st year, and would have paid pretty much close to the same full price when it was launched. So the majority of s3 users may have only owned it a year. It is also still being sold as a lower model, as a brand new phone.

The specs are more than enough to run KitKat. The problem here is they came out and said the S3 would be getting the update and then went back on it.

Looking the info it is obvious they don't have enough RAM to run all the bloat that was added with the S4 and starts with Android (the S3 gets the S4's version of Touchwiz). I don't see why they couldn't just remove half the unnecessary rubbish, and leave it as optional from the Samsung App store. It worked well with the S5.

If they hadn't come out and previously said the S3 would get Kitkat it would be less of an issue.

I don't want to come off sounding like a troll but this has been a Android problem for years - purchase a phone then find that 22 months later you're thrown under the bus; HTC did the same thing with their HTC One X/X+ as well. For all of Apple's faults the iPhone was launched 24 June 2010 and almost 4 years later Apple is still releasing iOS updates and upgrades for the phone. At this point, if you really can't bring yourself to purchase an iOS device then maybe Windows Phone 8.1 will be the next best thing given how Samsung treats his loyal customer base.

With apple it does depend on the device. SOmetimes they stop releasing updates for somethings, such as the ipad1 or ipod touches after about a year. But their flagship phones, they seem to support for at least two years, and sometimes 3 .
This and other things have turned me off buying samsung again. Nexttime I will just buy a google one, where they release updates in a timely manner. Or may look at apple, as the iphone 6 / air (the new larger version) should be a gamechanger.
