http://www.sammobile.com/2014/05/08/samsung-officially-confirms-no-kitkat-for-galaxy-s-iii-gt-i9300-and-galaxy-s-iii-mini/

There has been alot of talk recently about whether or not the S3 i9300 will get kitkat

This was leaked

Samsung stated this

“In order to facilitate an effective upgrade on the Google platform, various hardware performances such as the memory (RAM, ROM, etc.), multi-tasking capabilities, and display must meet certain technical expectations. The Galaxy S3 and S3 mini 3G versions come equipped with 1GB RAM, which does not allow them to effectively support the platform upgrade. As a result of the Galaxy S3 and S3 mini 3G versions’ hardware limitation, they cannot effectively support the platform upgrade while continuing to provide the best consumer experience. Samsung has decided not to roll-out the KitKat upgrade to Galaxy S3 and S3 mini 3G versions, and the KitKat upgrade will be available to the Galaxy S3 LTE version as the device’s 2GB RAM is enough to support the platform upgrade.” – Samsung Mobile UK

I really don't understand this, the 4.3 update works fine on 1gb of ram so why cant Kitkat, Especially when it uses less ram, Google stated kitkat was designed to perform better on devices with 512mb ram

WOW! just.... wow.

I'm not going to go all "fanboi", but....
Actually I am.
It's Samsung's fault I'm no longer a Samsung fan and this just makes it easier. The fact my phone got 4.4.2 quicker than my S4 did makes believe they just don't care.
I'd understand if it wasn't going to happen to a midrange, but this was their biggest seller!

Sony rolled it out worldwide. I was actually amazed. I've had it for 2 months at least.
I remember seeing Samsung updates in other regions and flashing UK ROMs.
The day Sony let it go public, I had it.

Just looking at that leaked document it looks like the Samsung bloatware might be the problem.

I know, But why would the bloatware be any different to the 4.3 bloatware?

I've been running CM11 on my Note for quite a while now, although I stick to the snapshots rather than plunging into the nightlies. I have Apex launcher over the top and it just runs beautifully. I do really miss HDMI output though.

never let a chance go by, thought you would have tired of trashing samsung and just stuck with the Sony admiration society. Never seen the point of trashing something I no longer owned, just moved on.

Yeah I'm running Apex Launcher as well, it's awesome.

The main difference I've noticed between 4.3 and 4.4.2 is the way CyanogenMod handles the wifi.

I had to install JuiceDefender Plus (I already had it, just haven't used it for yonks) to turn on the wifi a couple of times an hour to check the gmail.
