networkn: The other consideration is the loss of NFC Samsung to Samsung File transfer as my wife has a Samsung and transfer of photos and videos is excellent. The M8 has the double tap to wake up which I LOVE, but the camera concerns me a little.

This is why the wife is against my idea of getting M8, she has a Note 3 and loves the S Beam feature on it.

But I thought transfer of files between devices should have no problem as long as both are NFC enabled?

I'm guessing it actually transfers over BT, just NFC is used to set the BT up

I thought it was done over Wifi Direct, could be wrong. I thought that was why it was vendor specific, because as I understood it, the standards are not ratified and each vendor is implementing differently.
I guess we will find out soon enough!

I held off the S5 as it didn't seem to be much of an upgrade and the rumors there was a premium phone in the offing made me wait. Looks like the Permium phone may only be available in Korea but if not it will be my next phone.

I've been Sammy for a long time so can be called a fanboy but I'm used to the phone and also custom Roms and what they can do but my other reasons are:

1. Ext SD card, don't care how much cloud storage there is I like the option
2. Removable battery, I like this option as i never need to charge the phone just change batteries.
3. The off screen capacitive buttons give more workable viewing area on the screen compared to most others, I realise when viewing video they disappear but with my old eyes its for reading etc.
4. I like the support that Samsung gets from the Dev community which isn't as good on some of the other top offerings.
5. Getting to like the Air view etc software available, don't have an issue with bloatware as I always use Custom Rom's

on the down side,
1. Camera is rubbish inside/low light (S4)
2. Screen is almost impossible to view in sunlight (S4)
3. Speakers are rubbish compared to HTC
4. Samsung have too many models to a point I don't think they give enough support to any one model or are able to.

Those are my thoughts and realise others differ greatly but think that the options we have available now compared to 3 years ago is great and anyone of which is a good choice depending on what you are after, no one size fits all nor should it.

I thought the S4 to S5 update was surprisingly worth while considering I thought S3 > S4 was a barely worthwhile thing.

Had it not been for me buying the Gear 2 or the rumours of a premium model I would have bought the S5. If the Prime isn't available in NZ I think I'll make the jump to the Note 4.

LCD just doesn't cut it, IMHO. So the Z2, M8, G3, and so on are all automatically ruled out.

But isnt one of the big issues with AMOLED is that it's harder than LCD to read outside?
Granted I think they get a little less glare etc but AMOLED screens aren't really up to par with LCD for brightness making them harder to see outdoors. It doesnt make sense to exclude LCD phones.

I agree they are but on the flip side they are very good inside than I believe LCD so its a fine line and what you prioritise most, I've learnt to live with better inside use.

Just chipping in Z2 favour any others reading and looking at the latest flagships.

Comparing it to my old S3 I love it, battery life is stunning and I don't even have stamina mode enabled.
Zippy, solid feeling to it, Sony apps are quite decent.

While I don't have a particular memory of looking at the screen in full glare of the sun I don't recall having any issues either.
For a bit of a lark I put it next to my desk lamp and it held up well.

I can swap pics with the mrs on her S4 to Z1 using NFC, if that helps anyone.

Android Beam uses NFC to pair & Bluetooth to transfer. S Beam uses NFC to pair & WiFi Direct to transfer. Samsung devices can use Android Beam as well, it's just slower.
