Hi There!

I have had Samsung Galaxy phones since v1 and currently running an S5 which is a good phone. I am off contract with VF and if I renew for two years I will get an option of the Sony Z2, Another S5, or the HTC One M8.

I am trying to decide if I should bite the bullet now and get one of the current models or hope that the LG G3 is coming very soon, or the Samsung S5 Prime is just a rumour or definitely coming?

I think the Sony Z2 is impressive on paper, sound quality is great, screen is impressive, but it doesn't "feel" right to me. I have had a loaner for about 4 days and I just can't get my head around it.

The HTC was likely my go to phone, but the m8 feels considerably less premium than the m7, despite being very impressive on paper. It still LOOKS pretty nice, but the cold metal feeling is gone.

Anyone have any recommendations?

On paper the Z2 looks good, but in reality I am not that impressed. It feels cheap.  Camera/Sound are good. The extra 1GB of memory is nice.

I have both the M7, M8 and S5 here. I am moving to the M8 as it has a bigger screen than the M7 and is considerably faster. It is also a much nicer phone than the S5, faster and without the clobber Samsung puts on its devices.

Go for the M8...

Really? I thought the M8 feels more premium than M7, without the polycarbonate around it.

I am waiting to see what the G3 has to offer material wise and might even hang out for M8 Prime, having said that, still very tempted to go with M8.

The other consideration is the loss of NFC Samsung to Samsung File transfer as my wife has a Samsung and transfer of photos and videos is excellent. The M8 has the double tap to wake up which I LOVE, but the camera concerns me a little.

Yeah, I really like the M8 also - glad HTC have included a microSD slot! :)
That said, I find the camera underwhelming at best, and the button positioning awkward.

I would go with the Z2 then the M8 I like the shape and feel of the sony. Waterproof and lots of ram. M8 is a bit quicker and looks OK as well.

Despite my camera concerns, I decided to confirm my order of the m8.
Thanks for everyones contributions.  I decided I'll just buy the S5 Prime outright if I want it badly enough at some point in the future.

S5. Samsung have lost plot with design, latest version is worst looking handset they have produced (S3 was the best). Off the list.

M8. Great looking phone, great specs, let down by sub-standard camera. Off the list.

Z2. All the specs scream BUY ME! I should love this phone, but agree, something in hand is not quite right. Can't put finger on it. Top of list for released phones, but reluctant to pull pin.

G3. What a marvellous phone this looks like being! Will NZ carriers pick up? Holding off Z2 till I see this in flesh.

But, then, I love pure android. How long after the G3 till we see the Nexus 6 ... me wonders?

The LG won't be carried by Vodafone I wouldn't think, it's been a while, so you won't be able to get one on contract, it's the reason I decided to pull the pin on the M8.

The major thing for me was the S3 screen... I want something I can read in bright sunlight.

LCD just doesn't cut it, IMHO. So the Z2, M8, G3, and so on are all automatically ruled out.

Am on vodafone contract, so is an issue. Z2 currently ahead of M8 for 3 reasons: (1) Camera (2) Sony skin least intrusive, closest to generic android (3) Bigger battery
