Nice feel with the soft-touch back, display is fine, speakers are excellent, so far gaming looking very good (only tried Trine 2 and Riptide 2 briefly so far, and yeah, the graphics are pretty wow-inducing). Have just downloaded HL2 and Portal and ported across to the external SD card, so will be interesting to see how much nicer they are on K1 vs my Shield Portable. Right this very second copying some PSP ROMs over to see how they perform.

Thanks for your report. Have you plugged it to the TV yet?
I'm curious to see if any of the games from Tegrazone with Stereoscopic 3D support work on the K1 in stereo mode.
That was the main reason why I got a Tegra 3 device, the Ouya, but never managed to enable 3D stereo:

I've used it in console mode a bit streaming 1080p Netflix and doing some gaming, I would need to borrow someone's stereo set-up/trip to someone's house to see whether Stereoscopic 3D is working!

No rush, I know Mauricio travels here at Christmas time but have never actually met him yet. It could be a good chance for a meetup.

Another question I have is regarding the way the internal flash is partitioned on the Shield Tablet.
From what I hear, the fact you can move apps to the external SD it means that there's no internal data partition been mounted as "pretend SD card" using Fuse.

That's been especially painful on our old Samsung Tab 7 2.0, on which I run Cyanogenmod. We have setup multiple accounts. The all use the internal data partition and get mounted on the fly as fake sd card when we switch account.
Coupled with just 8GB of internal storage, comprising 500MB wasted space by a hidden partition, that has restricted greatly our ability to install apps.
The external 32GB SD card has been sitting there unused since we bought it.

It's great by the way apps can be moved, that's a great feature of the Ouya, I actually have an external hard drive plugged in.

FYI I am still loving the Shield Tablet. For me the best Android tablet to buy right now.

Still awaiting fulfilment of my order for the cover and controller though, I think Nvidia may have been a surprised by the demand. For now my Moga Pro Power controller is doing just fine, but the Nvidia controller has several advantages for use in console mode that I look forward to using.

Update today, now that I have a Shield Controller - so far so good.

Also tried it via USB OTB withy my Note - background info is that Nvidia's site states that it can be used for wired play also, although the controller manual itself specifically states it won't work with other Androids or PC at the moment.

Plugged it in via USB OTG to my Note 3, and whattaya know, it works fine.

Tried Dead Trigger 2, perfect. Riptide 2, perfect. Jet Set Radio, perfect. Should note that even the capacity keys for volume/back/recent apps etc work. Tried PPSSPP and no problems there either, was even able to map the capacitive keys.

Next up: test with PC.

Should add too that the controllers volume buttons have a nice distinct tactile click to them - Im no having issues with them of the kind several reviews mentioned. I wonder whether Nvidia taking a moment to fix them following initial reviews resulted in the shortage of controllers for a time (as well as I think they underestimated how strong demand would be).

Update a couple of days in with the controller - really nice piece of kit. Turns both my Shield Tablet and Shield Portable into excellent streaming 'boxes'. Feel no desire to try out Amazon Fire, these do everything it can do, only better (Amazon ecosystem stuff aside, obviously).

Also small note that the latest PPSSPP update adds insane performance improvements. Now running Wipeout Pure at 100% speed with no frameskip at 1080p output. Even more impressive is running God of War at 60% speed with no frameskip (about 3-6x faster than any other Android I've tried to date) and FULLSPEED with frameskip set to 2-3. Unfortunately FS introduces some annoying flickering, so I wouldn't say it's quite there yet, but very soon this tablet will be able to emulate basically everything from the PSP at 100%.

Also, no one else here jumped on the best Android tablet money can buy right now?!

UPDATE: Youshop sending me my second controller and Shield cover now. Really looking forward to the cover, which completes things nicely.

so, guys with this device - some help here.... I'm guessing if this were a X-Mas gift for an avid gamer, he'd be pretty stoked???

(said possible giftee has the GTX range pc graphics card to be able to sync up pc games via Stream to this device)

If they happened to want an Android tablet as well then I would recommend it without reservation, I think it is the best Android tablet going right now, and if you can leverage the PC gaming stuff even better (I'm looking at getting an Nvidia GPU just for that).

Unclear if there will be any release here at all at this point I'm afraid.

I finally got my Shield Tablet Cover yesterday, very nice piece of kit - fullscreen protection with minimal thickness added, couple of different angles available, allows waking the screen with opening the cover which is a boon as the power button is just about the only thing I'd criticise about the tablet (it sits low and is kinda soft, offering next to no tactile feedback about whether it's been pressed). Would recommend.

(added bonus is that it doesn't cover the back, meaning it doesn't intefere with the magnets there, which are good for sticking the tablet to the fridge)
