johnr: What is wrong with 4.4.2 And please also explain why it's also part service provider?

For phones and network connected devices the service providers need to test before updates are released to use their network. This of course will delay releases be it only a small part delay. For non network devices like my Tablet there is no service provider delay, it is purely Samsung slackness.

As for 4.4.2 it is OK but I would like Android L without risking warranty, so official update.

As I said a small delay but it's longer than 5 days, e.g Samsung sends it to say VF, it is picked and given to engineers to test , they start that say 3 working days after that, test for say 5 working days, no issues found so sent back to Samsung to release. That whole process in reality probably takes a month. If VA find and issue, be it only small they delay will be many months.

Again I am not laying blame on the service providers, there is a small delay with them, the bulk of the delay rests with Samsung, they have a poor track record, they are more focused with churning out countless numbers of new poor devices than they are concerned about previous devices sold. This attitude will kick them in the butt and we are seeing that now with their decline.

KiwiNZ: Samsung are poor at releasing updates as are many Android OR MS. This is in part due service providers. It is also due to the awful state of Android in general, it has become a fragmented mess. Samung is bad though, I have a Galaxy Tab S, it is still running 4.4.2, there is no service provider to blame etc it is purely down to Samsung, the do not care about products they have sold. This attitude will/is hurting them.

I think you are being harsh, there has always been a lot of discussion over updates on GZ and one thing obvious is that Android, due to being open source, isn't able to be updated like other OS's due to all the phones involved..

Samsung isn't bad at all nor are any of the other manufacturers its just the way it is and lets be honest how many people even care about updates other than geek's or those in industry. Happy for you to show me that I'm wrong here but all evidence points to me being right.

According to Techradar things are going ahead fine and given Samsung has already released this to Europe how are they doing any worse than the rest, are there actually any official lollipop updates been done in NZ or even got to the telco's.

As I said most people want updates purely because others have it but no nothing of what it offers, in my case sod all so 4.4.2 is fine by me.

John I can answer that, nothing at all wrong with it, just perception is all.

If the delay is not Samsung nor service providers (phones and 4G Tablets) then where is the delay?

The point I am making is that it isn't just Samsung so they are not the worst as you keep saying its just the nature of the beast we have.

I never actually said Samsung are the worst, I am saying they are bad and Samsung is my interest as my phone and tablet are Samsung(currently)

ok well you will be used to it then. You can flash the latest firmware without tripping knox or warranty if you really want it but think you will be underwhelmed with it as I am.

I never worry about warranty as its covered by CGA but of the 6 smasung phones i've had never had a warranty not the tablet.

Hang in there it will arrive but lags behind rest of world

I would rather have Samsung release a stable build then rush to keep first to release bragging rights. When Lollipop first came out, it had a lot of issues which the 'beta' (nexus) uses experienced so i am expecting all the issues to be ironed out before we get the lollipop build.

No SM-910U 5.0.1 update has been released for any of the SM-N910U countries (Hong Kong, Taiwan, Australia, New Zealand, Chile) as of yet, so I am guessing the ball is still in Samsung's park.

I did notice the SM-N915G (Australia, Note Edge) has received the update, but that is a Qualcomm variant not Exynos like our SM-N910U.

I'm still waiting on an order for the Note 4 LED cover...Been almost 3 months. Noel Leeming says Samsung are holding it back because incompatibility with lollipop.
Been a Samsung user for a while but they're really starting to piss me off now.

Yep, this update is a bit of a joke. Unlikely that Samsung will be my next phone. They fragment their own line with so many different fecking variants of the same phone. Stupid business model.

IKR, They make SO MANY different models, and then have different models for different carriers and countries.

They only should have a few each year

Their flagship S, the Note phablet, A Mid range, a low end etc,

It would be so much easier for them to keep up with updates,

Apple doesn't give carriers control of software neither should android manufacturers
